An AT-AT walker designed for a four-year-old
My four-year-old son had a scheduled surgery on both his legs last Tuesday, and was sent home with a walker and knee immobilizers — neither of which he enjoys. A friend of mine designed an AT-AT out of cardboard for our son’s walker, and the rest is pure post-op recovery magic.
How to make these awesome Star Wars pegboards
My husband belongs to a Star Wars costuming group called the 501st, and I’m working on a costume so I can join, too. After going to a party at the home of another 501st member with a decked out Star Wars-themed garage, I decided that for my husband’s birthday I’d give him a little Star Wars flair for our own garage. Since we have been talking about needing to organize our garage pretty much since day one, it made sense to combine Star Wars into our plans. And thus, the idea for the pegboards was born.
Mid-century design meets geek artist Steve Thomas
Artist Steve Thomas got spot on two things I love above all: early/mid-century design and geek stuff. Tolkien-themed posters, Fallout-style propaganda, Sci-fi travelling ads… It’s like Christmas, but only better.
V is for Vader: geeky and nerdy baby fashion from ThinkGeek
CALLING ALL BREEDERS OF BABY NERDS: it’s about to get reeeeal cute and real nerdy in here! When I happily found ThinkGeek’s V is For Vader onesie ($19.99) I immediately started making a list of everyone I knew who a) has a newborn and b) loves Star Wars. Fortunately for ThinkGeek, that list is long and mighty! And fortunately for you, the nerdy baby offerings don’t stop there.
A full-size C-3PO costume and 5 other wonders kids can create from empty paper towel rolls
Environmentalism, for me, is less about recycle and far more about reuse. “Recycle” smacks of some propaganda feel-good program for using too much crap in the first place. As a parent, I naturally impart my opinionated views on my offspring. They’re all about reusing things — from junk mail to paper towel rolls.
My tiny, kitschy, crafty, and Star Wars-y living space
It’s easy to get wrapped up in trying to make your home perfect and coordinating and sticking to one certain look. I’ve tried for so long to stick to certain colour schemes, or a certain really specific look, and I was never completely happy and also could never get it quite right. Finally, I figured out that you shouldn’t have to pick one thing you love and apply that to your decor, but instead apply everything you love to your decor. Like in my case I love kitschy, vintage things, as well as crafts and DIY, then mix in some Star Wars and dinosaurs and there you have it! It all combines to create a very kitschy, eccentric look.
DIY glittery Death Star holiday tree topper
This year, my fiance and I welcomed our very first full-size Christmas tree into our lives! I took advantage of the opportunity to craft this Death Star tree topper. AND IT WAS SO EASY. And now you can do the same thing, if you want!
Kids these days have all the luck: light-up shoes are so much better in 2012
Y’all: light-up shoes have come a LONG WAY since I was seven-years-old. As far as I know, no one’s yet designed light-up shoes for adults (or if they have, I can’t find them), the kid crowd has some amazing option now-a-days.
