To my unhappily single friends on Valentine’s Day (happily single friends, you won’t need this one!): I love you. I wish I could look you in the eyes and tell you, without a doubt, that someday the void you feel today will be filled in exactly the way you want it to be. That if you just stop looking for a partner, one will find you. Bliss will be forever yours. I know we both wish the future was as predictable and happy-ending filled as a movie.
I think perhaps this May, on Mother’s Day, I will feel the same way you do today. Last Mother’s Day I was blissfully looking forward to becoming a mother; a month later I lost that pregnancy.
Happy Mother’s Day, moms! I thought this gorgeous whimsical maternity session by Kentucky-based Seriously Sabrina Photography would be a great addition to our site today.
I was going to avoid drumming up yet another “stuff you can buy for Mother’s Day” post UNTIL I realized that ThinkGeek has already done all the hard work for me and put together this collection of awesome Mother’s Day gift packs for the mom or mom-like person in your life. All you need to know is this: is she happy, caffeinated, a gamer, into Doctor Who, a gardener, Big Bang Theory fan, a n00b, or totally ready for the world to end?
I am feeling like a small canoe lost at sea. I am floating around, and I look rather normal up close. It is only unless you look a little longer and see the bigger picture do you see just how lost I really am. So here I go lost and floating around out into the greater world waiting for that stranger to boldly wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. I will smile and say, “Thank you.”
With Mother’s Day around the corner I find myself in the same predicament as I always do this time of year — trying to figure out what to get my Mom. My mom is a lesbian, has been out of the closet since I was four. Over the years she has become more and more butch which means all the frilly pink and purple cards and gifts just don’t work.
You guys already know how I love Blurb books, but what you may NOT know is that now I love them EVEN SUPER DUPER MORE. A friend recently brought it to my attention that you can make books from your Facebook and Instagram photos — an idea that had me shrieking from glee a little bit. Between those two apps I have hundreds of photos just sitting in albums online, and they’re not all saved somewhere else. In fact, the photos I’d most want to put into an album are the ones that are straight from my phone — the same ones I’d never think to print otherwise.
This is my paltry effort to tell the world just a few of the reasons why you are the absolute fucking bomb.
My life is full of achievements, big and small, that never would’ve happened without Leah, and on the top of that list sits my beautiful daughter, Harper.
