Big fuzzy yarn-fluffy thanks to Honolulu Homie Lauren for uploading this color orgy of a moment into our Flickr pool. Or, as she referred to it… “Yarn-pocalypse: Boring corner overhaul.” The moment I saw it pop up like rainbow magic in our Flickr pool, I just had to know more… paintings, dinosaurs, what’s hanging up over the kitchen pass-through!? Amazing. And Lauren was more than happy to tell us all about her moment:
The garland over the kitchen is a rotating panel of granny square patterns I’ve been testing out, hung with clothespins on a ribbon. A small portion of our dinosaur collection is featured here with their friend, Alduin the Skyrim dragon (a tribute to my husband’s gaming obsession). The paintings are originals by me of a friend (bottom) and myself (top). The yarn was previously a horrible heap that the dog kept trying to sleep on, so we bought some new shelving and now I can’t get over how colorful it makes our living room look. I’m glad I didn’t let my husband talk me into hiding it in our spare bedroom!
You can see the before and after shots and more views of her fun and colorful living room over on her blog, From Honolulu to Eternity.
Yay, Skyrim dragon! We use ours as decoration as well. It actually looks awesome on a small room-divide, with a candle in the middle of the circle. Hmm… maybe I should submit that “moment”.
So beautiful! I just wanna curl up with a blanket and pillow right underneath and stare up at the happy colors and twinkle lights while I contemplate the universe… just lovely! Now I feel ashamed for having stored all my yarns in a boring brown chest. Eventually, it’ll overflow and I’ll be able to tell my husband that I HAVE to keep them out on a pretty shelf! 😀
At least yours is in a chest! Mine is in a cardboard box next to my bed 🙁
Thank you! It’s been inspiring to have my yarn out in the open and devoid of dog hair. Maybe I’ll finally finish that afghan…
Pretty! Love how it’s organized by color. =)
Thank you!
The first thing I thought was that her yarn stash was way too tiny! Many yarnaholics could only fit a fraction of their yarn in a shelving unit like that. My yarn collection takes up 2 closets. =D
I love the paintings and the color in the space. Feels very happy and homey.
Thank you! It makes our sunny Hawaiian days feel even brighter.
And I just found a solution to my own yarn problems-already have that organizer shelving unit thing from Target, even!
On a nerdy side note, is that a white German Shepherd I spotted at the end of the post? Mine sleeps like that sometimes too-the adorable factor is off the charts 🙂
He is a white German shepherd! He’s such a dork 😛 but we love him.
Oooo, real live yarn storage instead of just hiding it behind random things (chairs, a door, etc.) The only problem is that then your yarn buying habits are very public and obvious.
I wonder, is there an Offbeat Home group on Ravelry? That would be a lot of fun…
That’s a great idea! I’d be a member of that group in a heartbeat.
me too! there doesn’t appear to be one, but maybe we can start one?
Offbeat Empire Yarnaholics. See you there! http://www.ravelry.com/groups/offbeat-empire-yarnaholics
Ooh, that’s exactly what I do, down to the same shelving unit!
I envy your collection! As it is, good yarn is somewhat hard to come by in Hawaii. Something about the tropical weather ;). I can hardly wait to get back to Oregon where you can’t spit without hitting a yarn shop!
Oops, this was supposed to be a reply to Cyla. I guess I’m having a blonde day!
