The oVertone girls: Maegan (has the yellow/orange hair), and Liora (has the blue hair)

About a year ago I attempted to have silver hair. It worked! For about a week. Then it was brassy and lame, and I was sad, having spent a lot of money on just a week’s worth of awesome hair. That’s why this news from our awesome sponsor oVertone is so exciting to me…

Along with a special discount, oVertone also has added two new colors to their vegan, cruelty free, color-depositing conditioner line: They now sell Vibrant Yellow and Vibrant Silver hair conditioner!

Where were you a year ago, silver hair color savior???

While I don’t have silver hair anymore, I do still have purple hair, and I say “still” because I’ve been using oVertone’s purple conditioners since the first time I introduced you to them, back in August 2014. Now, instead of spending lots of money to have cool hair color for a week, I spend a little money and have cool hair color for months!

This could be you ALL THE TIME.

Don’t just take the word of a purple-haired girl, take more words from this orange-haired girl:

I spent about a year lightening my hair from black to a beautiful ginger color. But even once I finally got the perfect shade I was constantly struggling with the color fading so fast. I was recommended oVertone and it has been a complete life saver.

I was at one point dying my hair almost every three weeks — now with the conditioner and weekly treatment it has been almost two months, and I haven’t even considered re-dying. Not only has it prevented dreaded fading, it also has brought my color to a more vibrant orange which was difficult to achieve with color alone. I couldn’t be happier. I am absolutely obsessed. This is the best product and I have recommended it to all of my friends with dyed hair. -Kimberly M

Comments on Announcing new color depositing conditioners (and a special super-quick discount) from oVertone!

  1. I’ve been wanting to check this out for awhile, now, since the process of bleaching/dying highlights into my hair usually takes me several hours. But, I just can’t seem to decide between the pink and red. I should just get a sample size of each. I really would prefer purple, blue, or green, but purple and blue require serious bleaching of my almost-black hair, and none of those are ideal while job-hunting.

    • I had a similar question. I checked their FAQ and this is what they have to answer whether its a dye or something else:
oVertone contains no harmful chemicals – no peroxide, no ammonia, no heavy alcohols, and nothing that will dry out or damage your hair, even if you leave it on for hours every day

I know when I told my colorist that I couldn’t dye my hair as per my obgyn, she recommended something similar to oVertone. However, I’m not the obgyn so you know..proceed with caution =)

  2. I’ve been thinking about this since the last time Megan told us about it. I’m definitely ordering some this time! Can someone that has used it tell me which would be better to get, the daily conditioner (I actually wash every other day) or the weekly treatment? I have a lot of hair, so I usually use about 1oz of conditioner every time I wash my hair, so an 8oz bottle isn’t going to last me very long.

    • I have the “lots of hair” problem too. So I alway buy the set (the daily + the weekly + the travel bottle). Then I only use the daily conditioner every other time (I use a zero sulfate conditioner instead OR I just don’t wash my hair). When my hair gets fade-y, I use the weekly treatment (like once a month). And then I have a bonus travel bottle to keep at my boyfriends’ place.

That way the daily conditioner bottle lasts a lot longer.

    • I’m haven’t been too impressed with the daily conditioner. I haven’t tried going without it, but it doesn’t seem to help much combatting fading for me (I’ve used vibrant teal and extreme green).

If you’re only going to get one, I highly recommend the go deep weekly. It is AMAZING!!!

    • I’d recommend Go Deep. I have a layer of rainbow pink/purple/teal under my regular blonde, and I find that the daily conditioner doesn’t do a whole lot– I never notice a difference. Usually what I do is Go Deep about once a week and then just wash with regular color safe shampoo/conditioner in the meantime (and don’t wash my hair that often to begin with).

  3. Does anyone know how this works with multi-colored hair? Mine is mostly dark green, but teal and blue at the tips. I’m worried if I use the green it’ll start to overpower the blue after a few uses…

    • Yeah, it will. If you’ve got straight-one color hair or “easily dividable into sections” hair then it’s perfect. If you’ve got super-fancy hair that’s different at the tips or an ombre effect then it will affect those colors too. And the pigment will remain on the follicle after bleaching too so your stylist will have to take that into account when dying your hair. I will use it when my hair reaches the “dishwater koolaid” stage of fading to try to stretch another week or two between dye jobs as a money-saving measure.

It’s a fantastic product and it does exactly what it sets out to do. But it does have limitations.

  4. OMG, I love Overtone, and I’m so excited you guys have another coupon! I got my hair dyed blue back in September and successfully transitioned to BRIGHT green using only Overtone! (visiting teal along on the way)

And my hair is softer than it’s ever been. Love, love, love!!

  5. I’ve always wanted to try this, but I’m not super thrilled about the potential staining. I’m lazy enough as it is when it comes to taking showers (literally bought a shower chair lol) to mess around with gloves, and I don’t want to discolor my tub/me.

    • I use the brightest purple they offer, I have a plastic tub, it’s never stained my bath but the only time I used it without gloves it did lightly stain my hands. I reckon the lighter colours might not, the weekly or treatment probably would though.

    • My hands are a mess if I don’t use gloves, but I keep a pair in the shower and just reuse them and rinse them off after I’m done. The shower has a few spots that have residual purple and teal on them, but I haven’t tried to clean them off because I’m super lazy, so I don’t know how well they’d come off. I have a dark colored loofah that I put hair color remover (this: http://tinyurl.com/o2xeyqm) on to scrub at my neck/ears/upper back and anywhere else that gets kind of tinted as I use it, but it takes forever for it to come off my hands so I just wear gloves.

    • I use it Extreme Purple and it definitely stains my hands if I don’t wash them straightaway.
If I get a bit on the bath/sink I usually just clean it straightaway with bathroom cleaner and it’s fine.

  6. Chiming in with another dang! I always miss these! Been wanting to order Overtone since your very last post, and been following them on Instagram for months hoping for a code but no such luck! Dyed my hair all over purple this summer, and I just finally bit the bullet and ordered Vibrant Purple from Overtone a few weeks ago. Looking forward to trying it soon! Always read great things from everyone, and the staff is super nice with their emails. Hopefully one day I’ll actually be able to use a code! 🙂

  7. Also one of the people who have put off ordering but finally decided to – got the sample sizes to see how my hair reacts.

lucky for me, I have naturally platinum blonde hair which I dye bright red with purple on the ends…. hoping oVertone works for this…. can anyone tell me how it does with roots – does it cover all the way or will it be obvious that I just dyed over my roots instead of getting it professionally done?

    • There’s definitely a noticeable difference in the parts of my hair that I have been bleached vs. not. I have naturally medium blonde hair, which I got bleached underneath with purple stripes last year. I use Overtone (mostly Go Deep once a week) to touch it up with its current mix of pink/purple/teal, and the parts that were bleached are way brighter than the parts where my roots have grown in. It’s not too weird looking because they’re on the underside of my hair, but it’s not nearly as exciting as I’d like, so I’m going to get my roots touched up soon so it’s bright all the way around. If you’re naturally platinum, I would expect it would work better.

  8. How do I always miss these posts?? Haha. I’d love to get some Overtone soon. I’ve heard they deposit the exact pink I’m looking for, so even if it’s a bit pricier than my usual options I want to give it a shot. I’ll just have to order some anyway and make a note in my order that I heard about it through you guys lol.
