Every now and then, when I’m doing my “unique Los Angeles real estate” searches on Redfin, I stumble upon some vintage amazingness, or some awesome design inspiration. Then, every once in a while, I stumble upon something I can’t even define. Today’s WTF-ery in real estate, is this house which real estate agents are describing as “wonderfully quirky and unique home.”
And here’s how it’s described in the listing:
First time on the market in decades. This spacious three bedroom three bathroom home features a massive architectural skylight and large open loft-style living room with fireplace. The kitchen opens to a large dining/ family room which leads to a large deck and pool area. This is a superb opportunity located in one of Hollywood Hills best neighborhoods. Bring your imagination.
Hmmm… surprisingly no mention of the RAINBOW FIREPLACE! If you were to ask me, I’d totally describe this place as “the funky house with the rainbow fireplace.”
And the outside is just a hint of the funkiness contained within. Let’s peek shall we…
What did I tell you! This was random real estate gold — er — rainbows I tells ya! If you’d like to purchase this property, you’ll just have to drop $1.6 million dollars and if you touch that damn rainbow fireplace there will be HELL to pay.
“[T]hat red thing on the top right” appears to be a dragon modeled on a combination of sea horse and bat. What else would you hang in this living room?
It also made me think of the bat-man/creature in the Neverending Story…. cool thing to have on the wall!
OH YEAH! It’s totally that bat guy for Neverending Story! 😉
It’s like a spaceship owned by hippies, I like it.
Yes! This.
If I win the Powerball game I’m buying this.
$1.5 mil. Ouch. Those skylights, and windows, and atrium are so dreamy though. I’d love to have that space.
The brightness of those rooms kind of hurt my eyes … in the absolute best eye hurting way!
Omg, I want to know more about that circular window! It looks like it’s walk-though-able? and open-able??
I don’t know! It’s just all “hey, here’s some Hobbit Hole window action… NO EXPLANATION. Dah fuk!?
The window is over the garage. You could step out, but then you’d have a Wile E Coyote type fall lol
Hey, that’s cheaper than all the housing in the bay area! I want that! I wish.
While there are some surfaces I begrudgingly admit I’d have to paint over, this lil’ cutie is so dang dreamy. I just hope its future owners are like “No, we must commit to the aesthetic. We are now technicolor pirates.”
I am already imagining a steampunk decor for the room with the cool skylight.
Suddenly I could really use 1.6 million dollars..
I saved this house to my Zillow profile when this article was published, because I loved it so much. I checked on it today and am DEVASTATED that whoever bought it has totally redecorated in black, white, and wood, and all of the rainbow is gone. I’m heartbroken.
Oh nooooo!
