My 5 ideas for non-baby themed nurseries
My husband and I are only just beginning to talk about having a baby, but like the overeager person I am I’ve already been looking at different baby room inspiration online. Over the past few weeks I have looked at all the available store themes and come to one conclusion: they are not us. Baby animals, over-powering geometric patterns, PINK…. just because it’s for a baby’s room doesn’t mean it has to be infantile!
Reader Round-up: Batdogs, city pigs, gallery walls, and cross-stitch charms
Once again, I loved getting peeks into the lives of my wonderful Homies from your Offbeat Home Flickr pool submissions. I got lessons in how to calm a “batdog,” got to peep a glorious gallery wall, and had my mind blown by a tiny cross-stitched charm. Ooh, I share with you yet another weekend adventure. This time, you’ll NEVER guess the animal I helped my friend adopt.
Have you rented out your place as a vacation home?
My husband and I are considering putting our home on a vacation rental site for a huge summer event in our town. Escaping the crazy and getting paid for it sounds great, but I gotta admit I’m worried about having strangers in my house. Have any other Offbeat Homies rented their home to vacationers?
How can I make my long and dark front entrance feel welcoming?
I need some help making my front entrance feel more inviting. My front door opens up into this narrow hallway that’s nearly 20 feet long and only 3’7″ across. I’d love to make my entrance feel bright and more welcoming, but I’ve been struggling to find a good way.
How to make an outdoor side table from a plate and a planter
You saw her awesome mustache-themed bathroom and loved it. Now check out how Homie Metal Maggie made a pair of outdoor side tables with just a couple of $2 plates and old plant holders.
Lord of the Rings cable reel table
Cheryl Hellcat’s grandpa turned a cable reel into a table. Then Cheryl turned the the cable reel table into a Lord of the Ring fan’s dream piece of furniture.
Stolen keys, ID, and phone? PSSHT, I got this
I woke up to a phone call from my husband at 6:30 one morning and the not-so-exciting news that his keys, wallet, and phone were stolen from work. His wallet, of course, had his ID and Social Security Card in it, along with a debit card and the one measly credit card we had. I knew I was in for an annoying morning, but I felt fine: our bank shuts down cards the minute you say “stol–” and we had the foresight to opt into our phone company’s insurance program so I knew that would be handled as well.
What do you know about vintage mobile home restoration?
Our new vintage mobile home.[/caption]My husband and I recently purchased a totally sweet vintage (1967, baby!) mobile home, and we are really excited to finally be home owners. While it took me a minute to get over my middle-class judgements about “trailer trash,” etc., I am now all in and thrilled that while it may not be our dream home, it is OURS. (Also, the wood paneling is pretty amazing.) But because of my total lack of experience with mobile-home living, I feel really unprepared for the quirks and particularities that will come with our new home.
