The tiny, colorful studio apartment, that taught me a lot about who I am

Before moving here, I was living in a larger studio with my husband, but moving into this place alone I had to be even more choosy about what came with and what did not. This home has taught me a lot about who I am. I had been in a very codependent relationship, so it had been a long time since I had only needed to worry about myself. Being able to express myself through my space was instrumental in my journey to finding my own identity after I left.

Readying yourself for life with multiple cats (and other pets) in a small space

My fiancé, Derek, and I recently settled down into a cozy little apartment. The first big decision we made in our new home was to open our doors to cats. Our apartment is great, but it's also pretty cozy (read: small), so we had to make some adjustments to accommodate the new members of our little household. Here's what we found works for us. Some of this information is cat-specific, but a lot of it applies more broadly to keeping any mix of pets in a small apartment together, like multiple dogs, ferrets, or bunnies…

Family of four moves onto boat to find path again

When my husband and I met ten years ago on Orcas Island, we would spend a considerable amount of time dreaming of living alternatively. The thought of a house in a neighborhood bored us to tears. We wanted different, we wanted a little hardship in our living, and we wanted to physically work for what we had. The standard American way of living never looked that lovely to us. And then one day it all became clear. This little family of four + one old lab needed a boat.

Making the transition to tiny house living

Ever since I was forced by circumstance to live in my car one summer, I have been obsessed with living in a tiny house. I would eventually LOVE to refurbish a bus, or a flatbed trailer, into a tiny mobile home. But for now, I am acting incrementally by moving into a cozy, 480 square foot studio/garage apartment. I am beyond stoked to be stepping onward to this process, but I have no idea where to begin planning for this move.

Tiny, gothic-meets-nerdy-meets-bohemian apartment in the middle of Amish country

We live in a medium-sized town, that is situated in the middle of Amish country in Pennsylvannia. Our home is unique due to the fact that is a two bedroom with five people. My husband, myself, and our three children. Our two son's (ages 11 and 4) share the big bedroom, while our daughter has the smaller bedroom. My husband and I sleep on a king sized mattress on the floor that doubles as a very large couch during the day.

Awesome-looking, space-saving tables for small space hosting

My husband and I recently downsized to a pretty amazing 875-square-foot apartment, and because of that we sold a lot of our furniture (including the kitchen table). So with the holidays coming up, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for awesome-looking, space-saving tables that could easily be folded up once the guests are gone?
