It’s almost Father’s Day: let’s get our budget-friendly geeky gifting on via ThinkGeek
I’m a big-time fan of giving gifts that have little to do with parental roles: many of the comments on gifts for Butch moms are the perfect example of this. Both of you KNOW that you’re parents — so why celebrate a day about being a parent with kid-themed gifts? AS SUCH, here are a few of my favorite gifts for the geek you’re crushing on in that partner-for-life kind of way.
Darth Vader can be helpful in the kitchen
I can’t even explain the face I made when I saw Allison‘s kitchen utensil holder. It’s probably the face you’re making right now seeing her supplies that live in this Darth Vader Halloween bucket! But wait until you see the bonus photo for even more face-making fun.
A fully-pimped Star Wars room in a penthouse
Curbed ran a little highlight of an almost-$6-million-dollar apartment in Manhattan with three bedrooms — one of which is a fully pimped ode to Star Wars. This thing comes complete with full wall-and-ceiling starscapes, a large model of the Millenium Falcon, and shockingly-cute accessories that make the whole place look chic, not at all weird.
My six-year-old is totally a gamer
My daughter is six years old and she’s a gamer. Right now she is a level 22 wood elf in Skyrim. She smiths, making her own steel armor to match Lydia, her house carl, and prefers one-handed weapons and magic along with a dwarven bow. She’s part of the Thieves Guild, a Companion, a Werewolf and the Arch Mage of the College of Winterhold. Basically, she owns that shit.
Star Trek and Star Wars sent up in stained glass
Homies, meet AidanT, stained glasser of your nerdy fantasies. He makes not JUST Trekkie windows, but also beautiful homages to other beloved sci-fi properties. Wait until you see a very special Doctor Who allusion…
SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Everything’s growing in this week’s reader photos
Dudes, I woke up this morning and looked out the window and the world looked SO GREEN after all the rain Iowa got this week. It’s been warm here for weeks, but it’s not spring until the plants are growing. And it looks like people in the Offbeat Home Flickr pool are feeling the same fresh verdantness. Let’s take a look at the world with fresh eyes, and enjoy the Clicky Link bounty.

Throw this party: A Nerdy Thirty birthday party
About two weeks before my 30th birthday, someone reminded me that my “dirty thirty” was coming up soon. To which Aaron, that guy I married, responded: “With Megan, it’s more like her nerdy thirty.” And thus, a theme was born!
This is how I pulled off one hell of an awesome Nerdy Thirty birthday theme with only two weeks to plan, and with a little help from my friends.
