19 of the coolest area rugs you’ve ever seen
I’m currently looking to replace my worn-out-but-still-awesome-but-also-kinda-stinky living room rug, and while searching for an area rug replacement, I’ve stumbled upon some of the coolest rugs I’ve ever seen. I’ve found goth rugs, rugs made from rags, rugs for nerds, punk rock rugs, a rug with a time travel theme, and even something called a Pop Art Jazz Rug.
Why part-Vulcans make bad partners
I recently came home from a couple’s therapy session that left me sweating through every layer of clothing that I had on. It dealt with the two things that I struggle with the most: emotions and the expressing of them. See, there’s a reason why that guy I married calls me “Foxy Spocksy.” We both believe that I’m part Vulcan.
Give the gift of nerdy custom fashion with this nerdy screenprinting tutorial
My fiancé and would like to honor our friends with some gifts. They are all somewhat nerdy about one thing or another. So we’ve decided to DIY screenprint a symbol for each person that refers to their specific nerdy thing: Next Gen, Original Series, Doctor Who, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, and Star Wars. Here’s the DIY screenprinting tutorial…
LeakyCon and 4 other nerd-tastic summer cons perfect for parent-teen bonding
Guys, summer is almost upon is… which means it’s TOTALLY time to get ready for con season! We’ve chatted about taking a small child to a con (totally doable), but never before have we waded into aspirational con territory for many a parent-child duo: taking your teen to a con. Luckily there are tons of options this time of year — there’s a con for just about every form of geekery you can drum up. Harry Potter fan? Check. Horror movie aficionado? You got it.
An AT-AT walker designed for a four-year-old
My four-year-old son had a scheduled surgery on both his legs last Tuesday, and was sent home with a walker and knee immobilizers — neither of which he enjoys. A friend of mine designed an AT-AT out of cardboard for our son’s walker, and the rest is pure post-op recovery magic.
Star Trek and Star Wars sent up in stained glass
Homies, meet AidanT, stained glasser of your nerdy fantasies. He makes not JUST Trekkie windows, but also beautiful homages to other beloved sci-fi properties. Wait until you see a very special Doctor Who allusion…
Home palettes based on nerdy fandoms: Would you choose carpet that matches Worf’s hair?
I do love Adventure Time, Cartoon Network’s bizarro young adult show about a boy adventurer in the Land of Ooo. When I found Dan Toth’s episodic color palettes, I was inspired! Taking colors from TV shows to apply to — what, rooms? Spray paint craft projects? Reupholstery? GENIUS! I used Colour Lovers to do the same with a few other nerdy loves: Star Trek, Harry Potter, and Doctor Who.
