A life filled with relics of other people’s lives: My love of collecting vintage furniture

This is a story about the intrinsic value of material objects. Sometimes when I discuss my hobby with others, they comment that it would “weird them out” to have other people’s old stuff, but it’s never bothered me. I find something satisfying in knowing that my things arrived on this Earth long before I, and will likely remain long after, too. Here’s how I got into collecting vintage furniture…

Create this apothecary-themed bathroom

I found Izola’s Apothecary Pattern shower curtain and thought THIS would be a great start to a vintage-style apothecary-themed bathroom. If you’re in love with the apothecary aesthetic, you may want to think about turning your bathroom into a vintage pharmacist’s dream with these products…

Going vintage: How I learned to stop worrying and love my vintage sewing machine

Finally, I figured out that you shouldn’t have to pick one thing you love and apply that to your decor, but instead apply everything you love to your decor. Like in my case I love kitschy, vintage things, as well as crafts and DIY, then mix in some Star Wars and dinosaurs and there you have it! It all combines to create a very kitschy, eccentric look.

Vintage circular home in Illinois

We’ve seen geodesic domes, yurts, and yomes on Offbeat Home, but I think this is our first circular home. This house has been contemporarily restored on the inside, but it still has the unique distinction of being built completely around a pool with a retractable roof. Yeah, it’s pretty awesome. See for yourself…
