10 healthy, brain-stimulating “at work”-outs you can do at your desk
I know, I know, you’re too busy to exercise. You’ve got obligations, family to attend to, and not to mention that full-time job (that you may be at right now!). You’re stuck behind a desk most of the day, so suiting up to go to the gym just ain’t happening. Okay then, why not get a little exercise right there at work? Here are seven exercises and three stretches that you can do right now at your desk.
20 minute dance party: how our family exercises together
A few weeks ago my husband and I were trying to figure out how to watusi, so we turned to this video on YouTube. It turns out Michael Ivy is a dedicated dance instructor who has a whole list of instructional dance videos. We eyed the list, deduced that playing it in its entirety would take about 20 minutes, and asked our four-year-old if he wanted to dance with us.
Confessions of a fitness gadget whore
I have been a gadget whore for a very long time, but it is only within the last few years that I’ve started to care about exercise. And just like many people have stacks of Tae Bo DVDs languishing in their basement, I have the Gadget Drawer of Shame.
Today, we will peer into my collection of Fitness Gadgets of Christmas Past…
Walking while you work?: The treadmill desk is a thing
We’ve talked about standing desks before, and I totally see their benefit. But OMG check out this standing treadmill desk. I can’t tell if this is genius or ridiculous.
This beachside yoga-infused maternity session’s gonna make you swoon
Amy and Tres share a love for yoga — in fact, they were introduced to one another by their yoga teacher. The two are now expecting their first tiny yogi, and decided to have some fun with yoga during their maternity session with Cassie Leigh Photography.
What yoga is teaching me about raising spiritual kids
My husband Ivan and I do not happen to follow the practices of any organized religion, and before we had kids that seemed to be working just fine. We come from different backgrounds (mine agnostic with varying degrees of Christianity in my heritage, his a mix between Jewish and agnostic), but had generally landed in the same spot in adulthood: we believe in a Higher Power, and He or She may or may not be bearded (which does not necessarily designate gender; perhaps just a divine aversion to wax).
Quick and easy exercises you can do at your desk in 7 minutes or less
I’m not an exercise buff by any means — the most I do is yoga three times a week, when I’m really disciplined about it. Most of the time my schedule (working from home + parenting a small child = I’m all over the place) makes regular yoga attendance a challenge. However, this doesn’t mean I don’t like to at least feel like I’m being healthy while I’m sitting at my desk for a few hours each day. To combat the overall feeling of ick that I generally get, I created this series of small exercises to do to keep my circulation up and spirit happy.
How can our family be more physically active?
Right now we have an active four-year-old daughter. We’re in a bit of a jogging-with-stroller, biking-with-burley rut. We have recently started kayaking but would love to get some other suggestions — especially anything that allows the kiddo to be more than cargo and still gets the adult heart rate up.
