A ton of gift ideas for your expecting friends

The problem with baby showers and registries is that you don’t know your baby yet and as novice parents you really don’t know what you are going to need. And you aren’t going to know whether or not your child will hate the really expensive bouncer that their grandparents purchase them off of the registry.

RAWR: Etsy delivers handmade lion-themed cuteness for that little kid you know

How absolutely ADORBZ is this lion hat and diaper cover set made by Offbeat Families Flickr pool member HiLL.jO?! SO cute I had to cruise Etsy to see what other lion-themed preciousness is available, and naturally that’s a veritable treasure trove of diaper covers, birthday cakes, nursery designs, and so. many. outfits that are waiting for you to “AWWW” all over them.

Surprise: life with two kids is easier than I thought it would be

The first few times I took the girls out all by myself, I felt like some sort of hero. “Look at me, world!” I wanted to shout, “Look at me braving the unknown, with not one but TWO children. See this baby? She could cry at any moment! See this toddler? She could cry, too. There might be diaper changes! They might want to eat! They might both fall asleep in the stroller on the way home, eliminating any chance of naptime!”

A Very Hungry first birthday party!

We hosted our son’s first birthday party in August 2012. We were so excited to have an outdoor party, complete with Slip ‘n’ Slide, a kiddie pool, golf toss, and a barbecue. The day of the party, we began setting up at 10 AM and realized we were in for a scorcher of a day, since the temperature was already in the 90s and climbing.

Stream of consciousness thoughts on failing at breastfeeding — and surviving

I barely pump anymore, although I can still feed my baby about an ounce of breast milk from one breast every other feeding or so. I’ve given up on my right breast — she’s such an underachiever. I’ll keep taking the prescriptions and supplements and keep hoping that I’m giving my baby girl SOME antibodies and nutrients, but for the most part, my child is fed, and yes nourished, by formula.

A very photo-heavy guide to sewing a faux gDiaper cover from an upcycled shirt

Today I’m going to show you how I make my upcycled mock gDiaper cover. This tutorial features a size medium diaper.

For this project you will need:

*A large knit shirt (or knit/cotton interlock fabric)
*One 1-1/4″ sport knit elastic for waistbands
*3/8″ knit elastic for leg elastics
*Snap tape — these are compatible with the brand name liners and can be purchased here (the evenly spaced tape with 1 1/8″ between each snap)
*11″ of hook and 5″ of loop touch tape or Velcro

Let’s talk about baby memorial tattoo ideas

I had my first miscarriage June 21, 2011 at 16 weeks. My second miscarriage was April 15, 2012 at 11 weeks. I want memorial tattoos for my babies. I’d love to know what ideas you guys have for memorial tattoos, and what some of you have used in the past.

Photos of a tattooed mama and her little dragon at a carnival

If you were just musing to yourself about how it’s been TOO LONG since you’ve seen an adorable mama-and-baby photo session set in a fair (just me?), MUSE NO LONGER. This session from Meggan Joy Photo is the realization of all of your fair-themed dreams.
