Reader roundup: Let's have a virtual backyard party this Fourth of July #Reader Round-up#backyard#summer July 4 2013 | Megan Finley Horowitz meggyfin Yup, it's summer in the Northern hemisphere and that means we're getting a flood of amazing backyard photos in our Offbeat Home Flickr pool. And since it's the Fourth of July in America and we're all hopefully enjoying the outdoors while we celebrate our Independence Day, let's have a virtual backyard party via all your awesome Flickr pics… From Homie NativeBacon: "My dog, Luschka enjoying the nice weather!" You've seen Eve's bright and summery deck before, but that puppy is coming down in order to make a patio in their yard! From Homie Charlie Heart: "I have been working on this backyard trying to make it into an awesome summer hang out in time for the Fourth of July. Doesn't look like much but the dirt surrounding the cement was covered in foot-high weeds and the table was covered in dirt pie — looks 50-times better!" Homie Amy shared with us her relaxing backyard hammock, calling it "the Perfect place to get techy." Psst: I see your wine glass holder, and I approve. This photo from Amy also looks like a dream. Homie Becky brought the desserts! "Marbled cupcakes with vanilla bean buttercream. They were a huge success at the BBQ. Will be making these again!" And it wouldn't be a backyard party without a few critters. This gecko is courtesy of Michelle (of bike wheel fame): "A frequent visitor, this baby gecko was released into the yard after an adventure inside a watering can." Finally, summer in Los Angeles means backyard parties well into the warm nights. My buddy Ken and I enjoying burgers and booze at an Internet-themed party. Can you guess what memes we are? Happy 4th everyone! 1 agrees Reply Thank you! 🙂 Reply I have no plans this 4th of July, so this post is quite appreciated. 🙂 1 agrees Reply You and me both, dude. So glad we could virtually party! 1 agrees Reply I see you, cleaning ALL the things (as Allie Brosh from Hyperbole and a Half). This is making me sad I have to work this afternoon/evening and thus will miss celebrating the fourth with other people. I wonder if my work will mind if I sing Stars and Stripes Forever (the Muppet version, with chicken sounds) today? Reply YES! I totally cleaned all the things. And Ken was "it's still real to me" guy! Reply Haha! Love the Pedobear costume at your Internet party! Reply YES! I love that you spotted Pedobear! You can see a whole bunch of other memes/party goers on my personal blorg. Reply Those wine glass holders are the tits! They'll hold a coffee mug too. Also, right now our hammock area is overrun with baby lizards and geckos, so those photos go together in a surprisingly awesome way. Reply You have heard of Xerascaping? Landscaping to the natural environment of your area? Yeah well we Zero-Scape We dont water at all, the grass and weeds are cut as close to the ground as a weed eater can get and stubborn ones are killed with Vinegar, salt and dish soap. We do have an in ground fire pit and we still have parties but we prefer to invest in lawn chairs instead of water This 4th we are facing 102° temps so we are having an evening party with crockpot Mexican food (chicken fajitas, pork carnitas, beans, Mexican rice, chips and drinks) because while we will light a small bonfire it is too hot to grill Reply Join the conversation Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
