Reader roundup: Let’s have a virtual backyard party this Fourth of July

Yup, it’s summer in the Northern hemisphere and that means we’re getting a flood of amazing backyard photos in our Offbeat Home Flickr pool. And since it’s the Fourth of July in America and we’re all hopefully enjoying the outdoors while we celebrate our Independence Day, let’s have a virtual backyard party via all your awesome Flickr pics…

Deck down! GEDC0673 Perfect place to get techy Perfect Sunday Marbled cupcakes with vanilla bean buttercream. They were a huge success at the BBQ. Will be making these again - and was asked by Annemarie if I'd make them for her birthday. It's probably pathetic, but I love when people enjoy my baking. Gecko
Finally, summer in Los Angeles means backyard parties well into the warm nights. This is my buddy Ken and I enjoying burgers and booze at an Internet-themed party. Can you guess who I am?

  1. I see you, cleaning ALL the things (as Allie Brosh from Hyperbole and a Half). This is making me sad I have to work this afternoon/evening and thus will miss celebrating the fourth with other people. I wonder if my work will mind if I sing Stars and Stripes Forever (the Muppet version, with chicken sounds) today?

  2. Those wine glass holders are the tits! They’ll hold a coffee mug too. Also, right now our hammock area is overrun with baby lizards and geckos, so those photos go together in a surprisingly awesome way.

  3. You have heard of Xerascaping? Landscaping to the natural environment of your area?
    Yeah well we Zero-Scape
We dont water at all, the grass and weeds are cut as close to the ground as a weed eater can get and stubborn ones are killed with Vinegar, salt and dish soap.
We do have an in ground fire pit and we still have parties but we prefer to invest in lawn chairs instead of water
This 4th we are facing 102° temps so we are having an evening party with crockpot Mexican food (chicken fajitas, pork carnitas, beans, Mexican rice, chips and drinks) because while we will light a small bonfire it is too hot to grill
