Oh man, I think we found something to top my wall-mounted shark head — this T-Rex trophy head from Amazon that Ariel is so fabulously modeling! They also have these cardboard unicorn heads as well. Of course, this made me want to explore the wonderful world of faux taxidermy to see what other crazy animal “trophies” I could find. And boy-oh-boy, did I find some awesome shit.
If you’re not the type to either make your own fauxidermy (a la our unicorn head weekend challenge) or bag your own trophy head, you may just be interested in these wacky and wonderful fauxidermy options…
I love these animal heads made out of cardboard. Painting them would be fun!
This all black deer is goth-y and sexy. I know a particular bedroom where this would look perfect.
Oh, upcycled sweater moose head, your silly eyes make me giggle.
Y’all know how much I love Neatorama online store, I love it even more now that you can purchase this Cthulhu Plush Wall Trophy!
It started with this tentacle doorstop. It made the rounds on the interwebs a little while ago and of COURSE I flagged it for my... Read more
Ermagerd! This dragon trophy head is amerzing.
Mod Cloth has a porcelain rhino head that’s also a vase!
Neatorama has this inflatable bear head, along with an inflatable shark, tiger, and dino heads.
For those of you who want no-damage decor, this wall decal will do the trick.
Ah, the snot coming out of the nose of this warthog’s head is hilarious. Is anyone else reminded of Bebop?
I’ve always wanted a pet elephant, so if I got this baby I think I’d pet that pretty trunk every day. Also, I’m loving the white-on-white action. Speaking of white… White Faux Taxidermy has a lot of rad fauxidermy options.
Repeat after me: Seafoam green deer head with silver glitter antlers. Did you hear that? That was the sound of Ariel falling to the ground in a glitter fit.
Halloween is coming up! You could always BE fauxidermy!
So who’s got experience with fauxidermy? Have you made you own, have you purchased one of these fake trophy heads? I know that my shark head gets LOTS of love from all our guests, it’s a total conversation piece. Perhaps no home is complete without a guilt-free animal head?
All I could do when I saw the seafoam deer head with silver glitter antlers was collapse in a heap of giggles. It didn’t help when I showed a coworker, and he wondered what your house had to look like to have that trophy head be appropriate. A sudden image of seafoam walls, with seafoam/white/silver couches danced in my head. I think my brain had a really hard time processing the fact that in this world there not only exists a seafoam green deer head trophy with silver glitter antlers, but that you could buy one on Amazon.

HA! We live in an exciting time. 🙂
Ok so when I read this all I could think of was this one that ShanaLogic carries… http://www.shanalogic.com/plush-kill-wall-series-unicorn.html
I bought a taxidermied rabbit from an estate sale and bought antlers to make it a jackalope. I used him as a necklace stand and I also decorated him for Christmas.
OMG PICTURES PLEASE.
Sadly, Alonzo has gone beyond the mysterious beyond. I shall dig around for pictures of my place back then, he made lots of appearances.
I love fauxidermy so much that I raved about it in an interview with a home decor website as it being my ‘timeless’ and ‘inspired’. I didn’t get the job…
I really want to make one out of a teddy bear :]
“Did you hear that? That was the sound of Ariel falling to the ground in a glitter fit.” BwaHahahahahah!
Does she know me, or does she know me?! 🙂
Can I pimp myself on here? I’m obsessed with making crochetdermi heads. So far i’ve done a dog, two foxes, a panda and a tedddy bear. I’ve also nearly finished doing one based on my friends pet dog. Next up a moose, jackalope and a few more foxes. 🙂
A panda?! I’ve become enamored with pandas lately. Pandas are the best bears 🙂
I wanna see pictures of these too!!
This is my facebook most of them are on here. 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/firesidefortune
OMG, stop. I cannot take it. Fox with a monocle? So much want. No wait, don’t stop, keep going!
My bff and I scored a cool taxidermy deer form (the foam form that would go under the tanned skin in a real deer mount) at a yard sale for three dollars. Basically, right now, he looks like a bright yellow skinless deer with no antlers. We’ve been planning to do something awesome with him, we just aren’t sure what. The idea of making him a unicorn has been tossed around some. Also the idea of completely covering him in glitter or wallpaper. After looking at this, I am motivated to actually start working on him for my house!
Scrapbook paper and Modge Podge: the mod pattern-on-pattern deer head.
I’m not sure if this would be more mind-bending with (a) a tiny repeating pattern all over; (b) a flurry of bright colors; or (c) self-referential deer patterns.
But now I have Taxidermy Form Envy.
Mossy Oak camo would rock!
You’re right, I’m leaning towards a pattern on pattern decoupage paper look. And Mossy Oak camo WOULD rock!
Oh my god, this is a thing. <3
My husband, when we were just two of three rommates moving into an apartment, brought along a mounted white pogo-stick horse head thing. Named Petey. After one of his mother's horses. (For reference, and awesome: http://i.imgur.com/nNQiS.png)
Turns out, his grandfather was thrown off Petey back in the day, and injured. He was so damn perturbed at the horse that he bought the stuffed horses specifically as a “screw that horse,” to Petey.
It somehow came to my husband’s hands, and it is one the deal-breaker decor items in our house. (And always elicits the best double-takes in first-time guests.)
When this was first posted there was a really cute picture of a crocheted moose head (I think it was a moose). What happened to it?? I came back to pin that one specifically and it was gone.
Hey Kathryn, it’s back! I had to find a new link for it. The old one expired.
Thank you! He is so cute!!
I couldn’t find an exact picture, but it looked something like this. … I got my mom this awesome old chalkware bear head plaque from the Smoky Mountains at Goodwill for fitty cent. She always complains that she never sees bears when she goes. The plaque looks less like a bear than this, possibly a rabid possum. It’s hanging in my dad’s bullet reloading room. XD
That dragon head needs to get on my bedroom wall post haste!!
I have this guy hanging on my wall: http://www.shanalogic.com/for-the-home/home-decor/plush-kill-wall-series-spring-buck.html
