Kids in the Woods will help get the whole family out into nature
Shannon’s got some pretty amazing life experiences to pull on — she grew up in Alaska and flew Apaches in the first crop of women attack helicopter pilots. She’s scuba dived on three continents, sky dived on two, and climbed the highest mountains on the North American and African continents. This is all to say, homegirl knows her outdoor time, and Kids in the Woods is a great way to soak up some of those smarts.
The adventures of Marla and Taco: Building a road-ready travel trailer cute as a button
Almost a year after its conception, I birthed my half-baked-idea baby: May 2011 was the the maiden voyage of my trusty camper Taco. My tools, a few belongings, my Zulu short spear, and my cat Sophie are with me on an odyssey through as much of the country as we can stand.
Road-trip: what can’t we miss seeing where you live?
I’d like the Homies to give us touristing recommendations in their area. We need must-visit places — we hope they give us the fortitude to stop joking about our dream trip and start planning it!
How can I make it easier to be away from my child for a few days?
I will be heading across the country (from Southern California to Nashville! Woo hoo!) for five days in July and it will be my first time away from my ten-month-old son over night. How can I make this easier for both of us?
How to book a staycation and tour your own town
Lots of us are looking at summer vacations. And staycations! The concept is great — if you can get the execution down, you’ll have a blast.
I took my five-year-old on a trip to Paris
Planning a trip like this with Ruby was a little daunting. I was excited to take her away to a foreign culture and experience it through her eyes. The Eiffel Tower! Walks along the Seine! Stepping into a tiny shop, sampling the wares, exploring the bits and pieces of life that make that somewhere else so exciting… but I was also nervous: how would she handle the two long plane rides there and back? Would we find a way to meet in the middle of how a child experiences a foreign place and how an adult does?
Allie Bombach’s independent film “23 feet” — people living simple lives on the road
When I watched this trailer, it was on a day when I felt drained. It showed me other crazy offbeats out there making brave explorations. Awesome.
Should we wait to travel until our kid is old enough to remember it?
Remember that time your parents took you to Mexico? What about the trip to Spain? Oh, no? That’s probably because you were too young.
