Let’s get real: I decorated my kid’s room for myself
My almost four-year-old recently achieved a huge milestone: he finally has his own room. When I asked him what color he wanted his room to be, he said black (it’s his favorite). When I asked what he wanted on the walls, he said black things. When I asked if he still wanted his thrifted Harry Potter blanket, he said ok, but he wanted black everything else. I politely and sweetly smiled at him, told him there was no way my preschooler was going to have an all-black room.
Keep Truckin’: Gus and his colorful John Lennon and Jerry Garcia-inspired toddler bedroom
In early September our son, Gus, turned two whopping years old and moved into a brand new bedroom. This is by far the best room Gus has ever lived in. It is totally and completely set up for him. Puzzles, blocks, books, dress up clothes, stuffed friends…they’re all so easy to reach! It’s amazing what a good set of built-ins can do for a toddler!
How can I create a peaceful, Buddhist-inspired bedroom for my child?
I’ve been searching for Buddhist-inspired baby and/or kid’s rooms online — and I haven’t found much. Many of the rooms I’m finding are for adults, and I’m not sure how to incorporate the ideas into a kid’s room. I would love to see other people’s creative takes on creating a Buddhist (any branch of Buddhism) baby nursery. How have you created a bedroom inspired by Buddhism for your kids?
Check out George’s super hip preschooler’s bedroom — think floor bed, world map curtains, and lots of color!
We recently moved into a new home, and welcomed our second child. Making our son’s bedroom a comfortable, fun and safe free-for-all space was really important to me in a time when he was feeling displaced both literally and figuratively.
Check out this sweet vintage black-and-white cartoon nursery
Even though we painted vintage cartoon murals on the walls we didn’t want our daughter’s nursery to be “themey.” Think “scene” over “theme” — our daughter’s room is like a booklover’s/modern DIYer’s explosion of fuchsia, turquoise, and orange in a black-and-white cartoon scene (with some retro toys thrown in there for good measure).

LOOK AT THIS HAPPY RAINBOW BEAR and tell me you’re not excited to find out what else Land of Nod has in store for you! Calling all kids and adults who love kid decor… it’s about to get SHINY and BRIGHT in here.
Mondocrane: a home for crazy expensive kid’s chairs I’ll never afford but gawk at anyway
There’s kid’s furniture… and then there’s Kid’s Furniture. You know, the kind that could also double as art museum exhibits or magazine fodder. The kind that allows you to you drop a cool $1000 on and never look back.
A happy yellow, green, blue and teal nursery with DIY touches and hand-me-down toys
We wanted a bright and cheerful room for our child’s nursery, and it definitely needed to be fit for a boy or girl. Instead of building the room around a theme we built it around color, and as you’ll see there’s DEFINITELY a lot of it in there!
