Make water balloon piñatas for a warm weather party
When hot weather strikes, water balloons are awesome, especially when you’re having a drought (like a lot of us in the U.S.) and don’t have the water to fill up a pool or turn on the sprinklers. But even more fun: hanging them up like piñatas!
Yurt + Dome = My life in a yome
My 16-month-old daughter and I live on an herb farm (no, not that kind of herb farm, though we are in Northern California). I am a farm hand here, and in exchange for a certain amount of hours a week working the land, we get to live here and breathe the fresh air, learn about herbs, and watch everything bloom.
We live in a yome here. Yep, a yome — it’s a cross between a yurt and a geodesic dome. And wait until you see the triangular windows…
Giant squid engulfs bedroom, and I’m jealous
Anita Roll Murals created an amazing giant squid mural that wraps around the entire room. She described this work as, “Giant squid engulfs this little boy’s room with playful tentacles. A little over the top yes… but why not?”
Luckiest kid in the world has a bedroom built of LEGO
When you need to add a space for your kid in your one-bedroom condo, what do you do? How about adding a loft made of LEGO blocks? It’s a very tiny building material, and it makes for a super cool custom bedroom you’ve got to see to believe.
Oranges! Blues! Feet! Dogs! Tiny lizards! All this week in our reader photos.

My hopelessly-hooked-on-Craigslist home tour
We moved in a month ago and have worked extremely hard to make it feel like a home. We are strong believers in “reduce, reuse and recycle” and try to apply it to our home as much as possible. We tend to shop at thrift stores and garage sales — and love a good Craigslist deal. Take a look around and I hope you find inspiration in what you see.
I’m a grownup who loves kid decor
Circo? Is that a kid’s brand? It had some circus-y merchandise around it, sure, but certainly I didn’t buy something aimed at kids again, did I? Yep, that’s my burden. To search the world for elephant-shaped mugs and eyepatch-wearing bird art. Hi. I’m Superman, and I buy children’s decor but have no children (that I know about).
We lost the TV and found bowling dates, sleep, and a travel budget
While in college, we gave up TV in order to see more of each other. Seven years and two kids later, and we’re still without TV — and it’s enabled us to live more richly!
