Whether you want to entertain your friends or (like me) only get visits by Amazon and solicitors, you’ll be setting the right tone with one of these funny welcome mats. I don’t even know which one I’d pick: I have cats, my home is barely okay, I love Joanna Gaines, and a good pun never goes astray. Help me decide by chiming in with your fave.
I was thinking about the upcoming summer festival season, convention season, Renaissance faires, and of course, it’s never to early to plan your Halloween costume. And it dawned on me: this past year has been ALL about the woman warrior. From the Dora Milaje in Black Panther to Wonder Woman to Captain Phasma to Tessa Thompson’s epic Valkyrie, bad-ass women in armor are where it’s at.
So I went a-hunting for some not-too-revealing, super kick-ass woman warrior costumes and armor for all your LARPing, convention, Ren faire, cosplay, or sexy role play needs. Here are some of the best I found…
Sometimes I have dreams of recreating Hogwarts in my own home and finally get that admissions owl I somehow missed at age eleven. Then you see what Jasper Price and his wife Angie have done to recreate the Hogwarts common room and realize that you’re out of your quidditch league. They’ve amassed the most mystical of Harry Potter decor collections (Mrs. Norris lookalike included!) and turned their home into the wizarding world of our dizziest daydreams.
It’s that time of the galactic year again: May the Fourth be with you! Sure, you’re probably already inundated with merch from the new Star Wars rebooted universe, but this DIY tutorial HAD to be shared. Why? Because it’s for spinning BB-8 heels. Seriously, the heels are BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and they SPIN.
This year is #FortyYearsofPointedEars for my favorite graphic novel series, Wendy and Richard Pini’s Elfquest. They are heading to Chicago’s C2E2 which means I’m finally going to get to meet my heroes. Here’s how Elfquest has impacted me (in life, career, and elsewhere) and how I plan to make the best use of my brief moments with them.
Have you met your heroes?
This is a fellow geek in despair. My fiance and I just bought a house here in MN and we wanted to create the ultimate cool video game/geek basement. The problem is, there are just no offbeat interior designers AT ALL. We wanted someone who understood the geek vision and make everything harmonious. Someone who would understand what golden snitches or a sonic screwdrivers are.
Know anyone in the Twin Cities area who could help?
If you play Settlers of Catan, you’ve probably felt the sting of a too-small table or maybe just weird positioning for the players. This homemade table maximizes the play area with card areas, cup holders, and organization areas for all of the resources and bits and bobs. It’s EPIC and deserves to live in all of our game rooms. If I had one. Which I will someday!
Anyway, let’s hoard our wheat (just kidding) and head on over to see the full DIY Settlers of Catan gaming table..
I stumbled upon these literary purses and instantly wanted ALL OF THEM. Carry around my Harry Potters in a Harry Potter book bag? Hell yes I will. Etsy seller Krukru Studio Books has tons to choose from, too. Think Anna Karenina, the works of Jane Austen, The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, and so many more.
