How can I support my long distance best friend?
One of my best friends has been going through a tough time for a while now. She also happens to live over 200 miles away. How can I be a good, supportive long-distance friend at a time like this, when popping in to help for an evening isn’t possible?
Books, timers, and mallets: Home security measures to keep you safe in your temporary space
We have a whole tag full of safety tips that you might want to peruse. But perhaps the best advice on this subject came from a comment left on this post by Offbeat Homie Stilleto. She had a fabulous breakdown on temporary home security measures…
8 locking cabinets that are stylish enough to put in your bedroom
My husband is on a lot of medications and we have a two-year-old who has finally figured out the beauty of moving stools to reach what she wants. We need to lock up his meds, but not in the bathroom. I was hoping to find a locking cabinet stylish enough to put up in our bedroom. But I haven’t found anything yet. Especially something not too expensive. Would that be a challenge you would be willing to do?
What crafts would you recommend for our weekly craft-y group hang?
I want to start a once-a-week group where we can do crafty things and learn new skills. We are already planning on amigurumi dolls, and learning knitting, crocheting, and cake decorating. Any other fun home-y crafty skills we should put on the docket?
WTF is renters insurance really, and do I need it?
I live in an apartment, but it doesn’t explicitly require renters insurance. I’ve been renting my own places for four years now, and have gone without it. It seemed like a good thing to have, but not something to prioritize as a working (sometimes struggling) artist. Can y’all help a Homie out and break down what your experiences have been, and any advice you have on renters insurance?
How do I reclaim my balcony from the pigeons?
Homies, I need your help: pigeons won’t leave my 12th-floor balcony alone. After putting up with two rounds of pigeon babies being born and raised because I had a heart or something, enough is enough. My cat chirps at them, and if they see her, they fly away — but then they come right back. I bought a plastic owl with a rotating head, but unless I move it around the balcony every day, they get wise to it and ignore it. Am I doomed to this owl-repositioning fate forever? Or are there other options?
Help! There’s so much poop!
Let’s talk about debt-reduction programs: Do they actually do what their over-enthusiastic radio ads say?
My husband and I have recently gotten pretty serious about getting out of debt. We’ve recently been paying more attention to those radio commercials that promise to “forgive your credit card debt!” Has anyone ever had any luck with those companies? Do they actually what their over-enthusiastic radio ads say?
How can I survive hot-desking in an open-plan windowless office?
I have recently started a new job. And while I love the work itself, the working environment is new to me and causing me to regret taking the job. I now work in an open-plan office without any natural light, and I am hot-desking. What can I do to make the environment nicer, and more of a productive area to work in?
