Electrical tape mural of the NYC subway system

Check out Homie Jsaxena’s DIYed wall mural. She created this work of wall art out of electrical tape, based on the 1972 Vignelli subway map. Wanna see how she did it?

What do I do with all of these bookmarks?

Over the years, I’ve purchased or been given many lovely bookmarks (especially since I’m known to be an avid reader). More and more, though, I’m reading ebooks, and even using bookmarks as designed seems like an imperfect way to see and show off all of my favorite designs. What are some better/other ways to display or make use of my bookmarks?

Use your aprons to hide ugly old kitchen phone jacks

This photo might just look like Homie StellarP‘s adorable vintage apron collection, and it is! But it’s also a super clever way of covering up an unsightly, and unused, phone jack in the kitchen.

Make your own magic shroom light

I am so happy with how my magical shroom lamp came out — it brings a little bit of craziness in my living room, and I desperately needed some right now! If you’d like a little bit of craziness in your home, here’s how you can make your own magic mushroom decor.

My tiny, kitschy, crafty, and Star Wars-y living space

It’s easy to get wrapped up in trying to make your home perfect and coordinating and sticking to one certain look. I’ve tried for so long to stick to certain colour schemes, or a certain really specific look, and I was never completely happy and also could never get it quite right. Finally, I figured out that you shouldn’t have to pick one thing you love and apply that to your decor, but instead apply everything you love to your decor. Like in my case I love kitschy, vintage things, as well as crafts and DIY, then mix in some Star Wars and dinosaurs and there you have it! It all combines to create a very kitschy, eccentric look.

Learning to love my RENTED house

I distinctly remember standing in the living room of my new home, looking at the chandelier, and breathlessly exclaiming, “It’s a mansion!” American dream? Not quite. My mom was in her dream neighborhood, but the house wasn’t hers, wasn’t even the bank’s. It was the landlord’s. Eventually I became ashamed of the fact that my parents didn’t own our home, and at times a bit resentful. Then, much later than I should have, I had an epiphany…

Clean a stubborn burn off an oven floor with this special trick

I think I found a good way to clean a stubborn burn off an oven floor without going through a can of Easy Off (or similar products), and it worked without scratching my oven.

Help us make our bed nook look less “Old European shack”

y manfriend and I recently downsized our bedroom. We moved our office area into our bedroom and moved our bed ( nothing else) into where the office used to be. The Bed takes up most of the room (we can’t fit anything else in it)… it’s more like a bednook really.

Now I need ways to make the room look more like a cozy sleeping space and less of a solitary confinement room. I’ve draped a scarf on the wall to make a “headboard” (it’s just a mattress on the floor) but now it’s got this “Old European shack in the middle of winter feel” to it.
