A Very Hungry first birthday party!

We hosted our son’s first birthday party in August 2012. We were so excited to have an outdoor party, complete with Slip ‘n’ Slide, a kiddie pool, golf toss, and a barbecue. The day of the party, we began setting up at 10 AM and realized we were in for a scorcher of a day, since the temperature was already in the 90s and climbing.

The theme for the party was A Very Hungry Caterpillar, after our son’s favorite book. We went with all homemade decorations and food, although we decided to use a local bakery for the cake. My sister is a budding photographer, so her gift to us was photographing the day’s events.

We had about 25 guests, almost all of whom were adults. Extended family from California and Washington drove in for the event (hosted in Portland, OR) as well!

Despite the heat (which reached 100 degrees that day), everyone had a great time, including the birthday boy. He even got to feature several wardrobe changes throughout the event. Here are a few snaps from the day!
