We love this colorful, modern take on the Hanukkah menorah from MAKE — it’s great for small spaces, and crafts up very quickly. Using tissue paper makes each candle look like a mosaic, and the entire project just seems FUN:
What you need
- 8 glass tea light holders
- Assorted color tissue paper
- Matte Mod Podge
- Shimmer Mod Podge (optional)
- Paintbrush or foam brush
- Scissors
- 8 tea light candles
- Small candle and holder

This is awesome! Thanks for including a Hanukkah project for all us offbeat Jews!
I hope this weekend I’ll be able to take some pictures of how we’ve blended some Christmas and Hanukkah decorations into our home. I’ll be sure to share them in the Flickr pool.
Yes please! I’d love to do a post about Homie holiday decorations!
Heh – thanks for the reminder to take my own pictures as well. Yay for multi-holiday houses making it work. 🙂
Looks beautiful, but I have to ask – how much of a fire hazard does the tissue paper become? I’d love to do something like this, but I’d be worried about that.
That’d be a great question to ask the author over at MAKE: http://blog.makezine.com/craft/a_very_simple_menorah/
This is so cool! I wonder what it would look like with little shapes punched out of tin foil layered in with the tissue? I’m not sure whether it would cast funky light patterns or just shadows.
Mod Podge rules! I use it for so many craft projects, but I didn’t know they had a shimmer version…leaving now to go buy some and continue on my holiday crafts…
