How to throw a Solstice Party, Montaninavian style

My love of the Winter Solstice has nothing to do with the New Agey stuff and everything to do with the fact that I am a badass Montanan of Scandinavian heritage. And I have been getting my Yule on since 1995. Here is my guide for throwing a party for this kind of Solstice. I've grouped party ideas by age, but you can borrow from any category.

Dinosaurs, octopodes, and microbes: offbeat ornaments for your Christmas, Solstice, or Whatever Tree

I'm as agnostic as they come, but I still love our winter tree. It brings a little light to the darkest time of the year and yes: it's also got little baubles of ridiculousness on it. And I do mean RIDICULOUS. I love a little weirdness on the ol' tree!

Assuming I'm not the only one whose tastes in ornaments run towards the questionable, who wants to paw over some weird baubles with me? I went prodding around the wilds of the internet looking for the retro, the ridiculous, the nerdy, and the fabulous. Who's in?

Agnostic seasonal decor: it's winter, not Christmas

I'd love to get some ideas for non-Christmas-holiday decorations. DIY would be especially treasured. Something more winter solstice-based…or really just not anything overly Santa Claus/presents/Christian-centered.

I am really awful at bringing details together, and I would love some offbeat advice!
