What I’ve learned in two years of bicycling with my child + front-mounted kid seats we love
Back in 2010 I wrote about picking a bicycle seat for our then-one-and-a-half-year-old. That toddler has now grown into a full-fledged kid (he’ll be three soon! You guys!), and also recently graduated from his bicycle seat (we’ve been using the Bobike Mini Seat). We’ve spent the last few weeks looking for something new, and here are my favorites of the options we saw and a few things I’ve learned about bicycling with our child on-board.
Can you tell me how to get… to a Sesame Street-themed birthday party? (!!)
You guys may remember the Dr. Seuss-themed birthday party shot by Atlanta-based Uzbin Photograhy that we featured a few months ago — and today I’ve got yet another awesome looking kid fete for one-year-old Aya. Aya’s mother, Palwasha, planned a Sesame Street-themed event for her kidlet, and the photos are crazy adorable.
How can I gently wean my breastfeeding toddler?
My son will be three years old in March and is still breastfeeding. He is VERY persistent, and I’m having trouble weaning him. The advice from family and friends (who think I should have cut him off a long time ago) and from the pediatrician is to make him quit cold turkey. I fear that he might perceive it as abandonment if I forced him to suddenly stop something he loves so much, but I have no other ideas about what to do.
Tips for helping your family rock at music festivals
A common passion that my husband, Eric, and I have is seeing live music. We enjoy festivals in particular because we can see a bunch of bands during the weekend and possibly become a new fan. We decided that just because we have a baby didn’t mean our love for live music had to change — so we just started taking her with us!
This family definitely knows how to bask in the sun and love each other
I oh-so-very much love family photo sessions that take place at parks and playgrounds, like this one from Natalie Champa Jennings Photography. It’s just like.. you want insta-kiddo smiles? Let them run around, swing, and be crazy!
I’m so happy my kid can breastfeed, I might let her do it forever
In my naive pre-baby days, I thought toddler-nursing was for hippie weirdos. “If they can ask for it, they’re too old for it!” I would exclaim in my most judgmental tone. This was back in the day when I also thought breastfeeding was simple and came naturally to all moms. Ha!
It turns out I wear offbeat step-mama-hood well
Last year, I did something very terrifying: I began dating a man with a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Naturally, one doesn’t spend a lot of thought on “the other woman” on the very first date with a single parent. But as our conversations deepened and our relationship evolved in that first month, I found that I was thinking about my boyfriend’s daughter an awful lot.
Wouldn’t a cookie party be the best way to spend your birthday… ever?
I am so enamored with this post on Offbeat Home today — two-year-old Dottie decided she wanted a cookie party for her birthday. Her parents consented (way to get what you want, lady!) after adding pizza to the menu.
