5 ways to ground your energy

These days I am feeling less and less grounded, and I have to make a serious conscious effort to keep myself grounded.

Being a true life faerie

All my life I felt that I should really have been born a faerie and recently I decided to become one. We have been running The Faerie Circle for about a year now, and while there have been challenges, it has definitely brightened up my life.

Exercise: How do I get out of my own goddamn way?

I’m not going to list my 1,000 excuses/barriers why I don’t exercise because you can fill in the gaps. What have you done to get yourself over the hump, get motivated to exercise, and create a sustainable practice? (READ THE COMMENTS ON THIS POST!!)

Put yourself out there: How to become a penpal

I got the idea to start looking for penpals after reviewing the offbeat hobbies post. Someone said they wrote to the Amish. That is likely rewarding as well, but since I wanted the immediate gratification that only the Internet can bring (and the Amish are not known for being too talkative online), I pulled up Google and asked “how can I make penpals worldwide?” Boom. That easy.

I (started to) defeat my body image issues with a sword

A few months after starting to run regularly, my fiance found a local sword fighting class. Even a year earlier I might have hesitated (“swords aren’t for people like me”) but thanks to my new-found confidence, I was ready to dive in. I’ve spent the last six months focusing on thinking of my body in new, positive ways. I focus on what I can do instead of my perceived flaws. I don’t wake up every morning feeling like the most beautiful woman on the planet, but I also don’t usually wake up in a cloud of self hate.

Facing my own mortality inspired me to stop making excuses and start running

I am a mother, a wife, an individual, a runner, a crappy cleaner with a pretty messy house, I like to read, and write…. But what have I really done with that lately? What makes my life enjoyable and worth living? That evening, upon returning home, I thought of a million excuses why I should just go inside and call it a night, but I made a different choice.

Coloring books for grown-ass adults

I’m crappy at every craft ever, but coloring… dudes, I’m awesome at that AND it’s something I can do while I have a glass (bottle?) of wine. And then I stumbled upon the world of adult coloring books. Check these guys out…

Why I love altering my shape with corsetting

I’m very proud of the shape I’ve been able to achieve over the years. But, unless I’m going to a special event where I feel it will be appreciated, I tend to somewhat hide it — I just don’t want to get stared at with those confused looks. There tends to be an assumption that corseting is a ridiculous way to look thinner. But that’s really not what it’s about at all. It’s about a lot of things, but that is definitely not one of them.
