How does your family handle non-sexual nudity?

I’m curious how other families feel about nudity at home. My husband and I frequently walk around the house in various states of undress, but now that our child is a year old we’ve been wondering when we’re “supposed” to cover up, or if we even need to. I’d love to hear how other folks handle this!

Four things that help my ex and I happily co-parent

We are both kids from divorced families, and we both realized that we should both be equally and amiably involved in our daughter’s life to raise a happy and secure child as best we could with the circumstances. We take her to dinner together a few times a month, spend holidays together, and try to make sure she knows that even though we are in two separate houses, we are still a family and still her mommy and daddy.

MATING IN CAPTIVITY

Oops: I’ve totally accidentally abandoned my partner in favor of my child

Joanna Goddard recently posited an interesting question on her blog A Cup of Jo: Who gets the best kisses? She just finished reading Esther Perel’s Mating in Captivity, a book about sex and marriage (before and after having kids).

Parenting advice I ignored… but now wish I had tried sooner

After getting unsolicited comments from just about everyone you know (and strangers! So fun!), it gets really easy to just start tuning people out — and by people, I mean everyone. Brooke sent me an email saying it might be fun to ask around and find out what parenting advice people have received that actually did work — and it turns out you guys have tons of it.

So… just how hard is it to have a newborn while in college?

My husband and I just started our first year of college together (he’s 25 and I’m 22). We just got married, but our problem is that we both want a baby, but aren’t sure if its such a good idea.

pic of Dad

It took me twelve years to recognize my step-father as my Dad — and I wish it had happened a lot sooner

Since I’ve spent just under half of my life as a child of a single parent, I never thought I’d be able to pinpoint the exact day I finally got a Dad of my own. I grew up with my Mom, two brothers, and my (maternal) Grandma. I had a few male role models throughout my childhood — mostly family members like my Uncle, Grandpa, and my younger brother’s dad — but they came and went without trouble and I wasn’t too concerned with why they didn’t stick around. After all, they weren’t my father — they had their own lives and their own things to do… which didn’t include raising me.

dermalanchors

Piercing question: I have dermal anchors in my back — should I remove them before giving birth?

I am a first time mama-to-be and I have piercings, as I am sure many other offbeat readers do. The question I am coming up on is about some of my less than removable piercings, namely, my dermal anchors.

How can I politely tell people that my reproductive goals are none of their business?

As my husband and I decided that this pack of birth control pills would be the last (for a while), I found myself confronted with an awkward situation. Random people (co-workers, clients, etc.) asking me in one form or another if I was thinking about having a baby yet.
