Egg-cessive gift giving: Is Easter the new Christmas?

In my humble childhood experience the Easter Bunny brought chocolate, candy, and perhaps a few small toys — all of which are the appropriate size to fit in a basket. An actual basket! Not a toy bin, not a kiddie pool — a basket. What’s next? Children sitting on the lap of a man in a bunny suit asking for the trendiest toy of the season?

Once we start down this slippery slope of excessive Easter gifts where do we draw the line?

Make Peeps sushi for Easter

Mich made sushi out of mutha’fucking marshmallow Peeps for Easter! These were all made with a combination of Peeps, Rice Crispy treats, Fruit Roll-Ups and Fruit by the Foot.

How does your family celebrate Easter without religion?

Both my partner’s family and my family are Christian — but neither of us self-identify as such. We still want to honor our backgrounds and family traditions… but don’t want to involve religion. We have an almost two-year-old son who we’ll be sharing the holiday with, so I’m interested in hearing what other families have done to celebrate with two-year-olds AND with older kids.

Zombiepocalypse Easter basket full of prepping supplies (and candy!)

Do you know how fun it is to prepare for the end of the world, zombie-style? It’s my new favorite hobby! The best part is I never run out of gift ideas anymore (my husband is one of those impossible-to-buy-for guys). I’ll use any holiday as an excuse to add to our collection. How do you talk to your kids about Jesus when you’re an atheist?

One day, my five-year-old asked me if I knew Jesus made the world. So, I told her what we know: that once the earth was here, things started to happen little by little, until one little creature had become a million little creatures, all changing and growing.
