Let’s get real: I decorated my kid’s room for myself
My almost four-year-old recently achieved a huge milestone: he finally has his own room. When I asked him what color he wanted his room to be, he said black (it’s his favorite). When I asked what he wanted on the walls, he said black things. When I asked if he still wanted his thrifted Harry Potter blanket, he said ok, but he wanted black everything else. I politely and sweetly smiled at him, told him there was no way my preschooler was going to have an all-black room.
Do you know of any toddler-friendly books that talk about breastfeeding a baby?
I’m hoping for something simple enough for a toddler, that shows the basic baby stuff — baby sleeping, crying, breastfeeding, having a nappy change and so on. I keep coming across books where the baby has a bottle — and while that’s a valid choice, I’d really like my son to see pictures of a baby breastfeeding, as that’s what we hope our new baby will do!

In 2009 my wife and I sold our house in Winnipeg, Manitoba so we could spend a year traveling around the world with our kids. When we returned to Canada, we relocated to Vancouver Island and moved into a community house with another family and a few university students. (12 in total) We’re currently in our third year.
I need some cookbook recommendations for healthy omnivores!
After 10 years of being a vegetarian, I have a good collection of veggie cookbooks. Now I would like to get a couple more meat-containing cookbooks that are full of tasty recipes, with a bit more emphasis on healthy.
Does anyone write kid’s books about family friends being pregnant?
All the children’s books about pregnancy I’ve seen are “Mommy’s having a baby” or “I’m going to be a big sister.”

A high school English teacher on 5 books every teen should read
The Huffington Post ran a piece last month about the five books every high school student should read before going to college. It was a pretty good list, and I agree that most of those books are incredibly important for teenagers, but I couldn’t help but think, if I had five books to give my students that they HAD to read, what would they be?
What do I do with all of these bookmarks?
Over the years, I’ve purchased or been given many lovely bookmarks (especially since I’m known to be an avid reader). More and more, though, I’m reading ebooks, and even using bookmarks as designed seems like an imperfect way to see and show off all of my favorite designs. What are some better/other ways to display or make use of my bookmarks?
