Put the fun back in funeral: I threw a surprise birthday funeral for my metamour
Kitty is my metamour — Chris’s other partner — and a passionate devotee to all things dark, grotesque, and twisted. As her birthday falls on New Year’s Eve, so she very rarely has a birthday party of her own. I decided to remedy this with a surprise birthday party (no, a surprise birthday funeral!) two weeks before her birthday to really catch her off-guard. Here’s how we pulled it off…
This is what happens when Radiohead fans have a party for their two-year-old
Sebastian’s parents love music, and it was so fun seeing that influence in his wonderful personality. Our friends brought their pug Kong, which was a big hit with everyone, and Sebastian got to end the whole shindig with a little dance in the kiddie pool wearing his red chucks!
A woodland themed birthday party for a one-year-old
If you’re head over heels for foxes and polka dots, get excited! I’m totally smitten with these cute photos Alisa recently shared with us — she threw her one-year-old a woodland-themed birthday party. Here a few photos form the day!
A Go, Dog! Go!-themed birthday party
After celebrating our daughter’s first birthday a A Very Hungry Caterpillar-themed party, we kept it pretty simple this year — just a few tots and their parents, some light fare, and a couple of simple activities. Plus, I was nine months pregnant and just didn’t have the energy to go too crazy. I liked using a book theme last year, so we went with another book. This year, it was Go, Dog. Go!, one of Penny’s favorites.
A Very Hungry first birthday party!
We hosted our son’s first birthday party in August 2012. We were so excited to have an outdoor party, complete with Slip ‘n’ Slide, a kiddie pool, golf toss, and a barbecue. The day of the party, we began setting up at 10 AM and realized we were in for a scorcher of a day, since the temperature was already in the 90s and climbing.
It’s on like… a Donkey Kong-themed birthday party!
With three young children that I adore making a fuss for, party planning has become one of my favorite things. I l-o-v-e a theme and finding ways to creatively interpret it. So when my own “not so little/little guy” approached me with his request to host a Donkey Kong-themed party, I was up to the challenge!
A frightful, delightful day of Nightmare Before Christmas dreams and birthday wishes come true
When I gave birth to my son Alijah, my water broke on Christmas Eve and he was born on Christmas morning. I decided The Nightmare before Christmas would be the perfect first birthday theme.
A Super Mario Brothers-themed birthday party for a six-year-old
I am FREAKING OUT about this Mario-themed birthday party! The crew played games, ate piranha plant pops, and basically had my dream birthday party. Amazing.
