STFU: How can I deal with one family member who always ruins holiday parties?
I’m slated to host Christmas Eve at my home again, and last year it was fun… except for one uncle ruined it with snarky comments and flat-out negativity. He bitched about the food, the tackiness of the decorations, and the gifts people gave.
At the time, I was more concerned about hosting duties and making sure my family was having a good time, so I just tried to roll with it. Nobody in the family had the guts to say anything, except to talk about it after he left.
This year though… fuck that, I don’t want any of that shit in my house.
How do I keep his horrible attitude in line in my own home?
Has anyone gone back to their maiden name after marriage?
I got married a year ago and changed my name. Now, after a year of honest reflection, I can say that I don’t like it. I’m currently putting out feelers on resuming the use of my maiden name and in the process, I am running into tons of negativity. Have any of you out there stayed married but went back to your maiden name? How did you handle any criticism or negative feedback? Did you feel better once it was done?
What do I do with all my old bras?
I’m going to need a new wardrobe and I’m sure I’ll be dropping off a lot of stuff at charity shops. But… can I do that with bras? Would you buy a second hand booby wrangler? What do you do with bras that are okay, but just don’t fit you anymore?
Where can I find an awesome double laundry hamper that’s easy to carry?
Right now our laundry system is a little all over the place: we’re putting everything into one medium-sized wicker hamper my husband thrifted a few months ago. It’s kind of driving me crazy, so I’ve decided the solution is a double hamper — one side for lights, one side for darks. But here’s my problem: everything I’ve found online doesn’t seem to be apartment/laundromat-friendly.
What do you serve a raw vegan for the holidays?
My sister-in-law is a raw vegan and I’m stumped when it comes to including her in holiday meals. Any suggestions on holiday, raw vegan food?
Cleaning + chemistry: Where do you find your reliable DIY cleaner recipes?
I’ve seen all the usual DIY eco-friendly cleaning recipes floating around the great wide Interwebs, and tried out most of them. But I’m wondering… are they all really safe? For example, I’m kind of suspicious of the baking soda, vinegar, and castile soap chemical reaction that takes place. What are some reliable resources with DIY cleaning recipes that rely on real research about the actual safety and effectiveness of the recipes?
I’m freezing and he’s boiling at bed time — help!
As soon as I get tired, I lose all ability to generate my own body heat. I’ll be sleeping with socks, pajamas, three blankets and something over the top of my face and still feel chilled at the same time my husband is boiling. I know partners often prefer different temperatures for sleeping comfortably, so I would LOVE some advice on how you all deal with this issue.
Pinkwashing: I’m grossed out by the commercialization of breast cancer, but I want to support my recently-diagnosed mother!
I have always been ethically opposed to the commericialization of breast cancer. But now my mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer and I find more and more well-meaning people asking me about pink ribbon campaigns or breast cancer runs/walks etc, or trying to show their support by buying into these campaigns. How do I acknowledge their support without encouraging these activities to which I feel ethically opposed and without sounding like I’m preaching or am just a sour bitch?
