Get messy and other advice when first learning about make-up
I am a near-25-year-old that never used make-up routinely. I am starting to get curious about it at a late point, and am inspired when I see others wearing make-up to enhance their look. The problem is, I don’t know where to even start looking at brands or what goes well with various skin types and such. I don’t even really know the difference between foundation and concealer. Does anybody have a good cosmetic guide or beginners advice?
Investing tips for a clueless twentysomething?
I’m a 27 year-old mother of one, part-time barista, freelance editor, and clueless investor. I’ve only got a little to spare, risk makes me nervous, and I am CLUELESS when it comes to funds/stocks/bonds/etc. Does anyone have any advice on the best ways to start growing a tiny nest egg?
Has anyone changed their first name?
I’m starting to research name changes and it’s very overwhelming and now I’m wondering if it’s even worth it for just the one letter. Can I continue the rest of my life as Jennifer legally and Gennifer personally/professionally? Anyone else change their first names? How’d the process go for you?
I need an urn, but don’t want it to look like an urn
Help! I’m trying to find a suitable urn to keep some of my father’s ashes in, that isn’t, like, totally weird and all: “THIS IS AN URN.” I mean, I guess I could put it in any container, right? But what have other Offbeat Homies done with their urns?
How can we make a non-sucky adoption profile?
My husband and I are beginning the open adoption process, and it’s time to make a profile. We’re Offbeat Lite (yoga, geeky, vegan, non-Christian), and all of the samples I’ve seen online look like Pinterest threw up on them. I want expectant parents to get to know us — after all, they’ll be part of our family — but I’m dealing with pressure to conform to the script of “loving couple describes each other lovingly while lovingly waxing poetic about the loving love they have to give your lovely child.”
When is saving money more important than living in a great place?
I live in the wonderfully offbeat city of Portland, right in the thick of things. I love where I live, like LOVE LOVE where I live. I can walk anywhere I could possibly need or want, and our apartment is adorably vintage. Problem is, I’m about to have to take a major pay-cut. It seems more financially responsible to move, but it’s good for our souls to live here. All that to say, when is saving more important than living in a great place?
How do you dry out a damp apartment?
My husband and I have just bought a lovely flat. Our ground floor unit is rather cool and definitely a bit soggy in the bathroom. Any advice for drying out a place (apart from heaters), or keeping mould away?
How do you stay positive in a job you hate?
I’m working in an office job that no longer interests me. While my resume is updated and I’m actively searching for a new position, these things can take a while. I’m looking for ways to change my perspective for the remainder of the time that I’m in this job, because 40 hours a week of feeling bitter doesn’t help anyone.
