If you’re an Ikea fan, you’ve probably seen the world of Ikea Hacking, or taking Ikea pieces and making them your own with mild or extensive customization. Ikea seems to be running with this idea in their new limited edition collection, SJÄLVSTÄNDIG. They are launching the collection in U.S. stores in October with customization in mind.
The intro states, “Get ready to be creative with modular carpets, differently shaped pillows, buildable furniture legs and more.” Think geometric carpets that can be customized with hook and loop fasteners, clean, ceramic vases that can be decorated with dried flowers or paint, and chairs that can be pieced together like building blocks.
“SJÄLVSTÄNDIG” means “Independent” so it makes perfect sense. I’m looking forward to checking out what the line offers since I’m always game to repurpose or switch up an Ikea piece. Also: COLOR is back in force. I’m still digging the clean, white lines of the past five years, but it’s nice to see some color again.
