My tattoo is beautiful… so why am I regretting it?
Earlier this year, I decided to go ahead with my plans for a half-sleeve tattoo. The tattoo itself is beautiful, and for a very long time I was happy with it, but now I’m feeling some regrets. I don’t want to get rid of it; I want to love it. I want to learn how to accept not only this part of my body, but other parts of myself.
Changing my underwear: how merino undies got me to change teams after 20 years of wearing Jockeys
A random piece of TMI you should know about me: I have been wearing the same underwear since 1991. No, not the same pairs, but the same style — a very basic black cotton string bikini from Jockey. They’re practical but a little flirty, functional and easy to order in bulk. They have been on my butt since I was in high school, and mostly I just don’t really think about them at all. But after two decades, I’ve finally changed teams. I’ve got new underwear, inspired by literature and mildew. Lemme explain…
Secrets from a high-end shoe store: How to find, fit, and maintain comfy shoes (and no, there are no unicorns)
I used to think everyone’s feet hurt at the end of the day. This is not true or, at least, it’s less true than you might imagine. I’ve learned a lot working in a shoe store. It isn’t some fast fashion mall shop — I work for a high-end store focusing on comfort shoes. Here are some things that I’ve learned to keep your shoes on your feet more than they’re off your feet.

What are you favorite offbeat or non-aluminum-based deodorants?
I sweat a lot, but I try to avoid aluminum-based deodorants/antiperspirants. But I’m a teacher and I usually resort to Secret or something else standard on the days that I’m teaching (teacher pit stains are the worst!). Sometimes even that doesn’t cut it. I would love to hear about other Homies’ antiperspirant solutions — particularly of the offbeat or non-aluminum based variety.
Weirdo ambassadors: Exploring the friction between attention-seeking and impatience
If I dress in a way that I know attracts a certain kind of attention, is it fair for me to get impatient when someone is curious about it?
Wait, is offbeat Botox a thing?
I’m nearing 40, and while I think aging is pretty cool, and like how I look these days (I’m in better shape than I was in my 20s!)… I don’t like the furrows between my eyebrows. It’s less that they make me look old… and more that they make me look mad! I got a Groupon for Botox and decided I wanted to try it. Afterwards, I told my husband and he got really upset…
The ultimate how-to guide for home-dying a rainbow mohawk
I love experimenting with hair. From my teens I’ve generally had colour in it — starting with gentle rinses, up to bleached-bright shades, mohawks and shaven headed designs. With a helper, hair supplies, and an evening (it took us about four hours, including development time) you can become your own colour wheel.
