Relationships

Let’s talk about our partners, and how we negotiate sharing our homes and lives with them.

What do I do with all the wedding “stuff” after a divorce?

Long story short: I’m now divorced. But what do I do with all the stuff — pictures, ketubah, cards, etc? There’s absolutely no reconciliation possible, so I feel like there’s no need to save it, but for the sake of my mental health, do I just box it up and throw the box off a cliff?

Johanna & Gesche: From Swedish faery wedding to working hard (but not on their love)

Well not that much has happened or changed… We’ve been traveling, getting more tattoos, and decorating our apartment. We decided we’re not ready for kids yet so we’re adopting another kitten. Our love life hasn’t changed much, neither has our every day life. Except that we have more time planning our time and future together now that we don’t have to plan a wedding anymore (we were engaged for almost three of the five years we’ve been together before the wedding after all). We’re both working full time jobs and between that and friends/family and the kittens, time just flies by.

How taking a “nose work” class got my dog to finally accept my new partner as a pack leader

My boyfriend moved into my house almost a year ago. Today he’s my fiancé, and soon he will be my husband. Somehow, though, the most exciting new title he recently earned seems to be that of pack leader with my three dogs.

Kynslie and Taylor: From Mormon wedding in Utah to expecting a baby in Idaho (by way of Georgia and the UK)

WOW! It’s been a pretty wild two years (and three months) for us. We went from Utah to Oxford, UK, to beautiful Savannah, Georgia. Then, due to my husband being laid off, we packed up our things in a week and headed west. BUT it’s turned out pretty good! We ended up buying an adorable house, getting a second dog, AND dun dun dun… found out in February that we are expecting our first baby (it’s a boy!) on HALLOWEEN!

Emma & Kevin: From day-of-fun elopement to life-of-fun with a chihuahua

Two months after the wedding, we went to Las Vegas for our honeymoon, and it was super fun! In the past year, we also took trips to Toronto and to Miami and the Bahamas. At home, we’ve been learning to cook together and we do country line dancing (Emma, mostly!). In addition to working, Emma has gone back to school part time, while Kevin is working freelance. Oh, and we got a chihuahua!

What are your relationship’s job titles?

My partner Andreas and I celebrated our 15th hookupiversary last New Years. Next year will be our 10th wedding anniversary. People, we have been together a LONG time. I remember being 22, already chewed up and spit out by two dysfunctional long-term relationships, feeling like I was already so old and jaded and damaged. (Oh, sweet baby Ariel! Adorable!)

15 years later, we’ve had a lot of time to figure out what works best for us in our relationship. About five years in, we realized that our relationship responsibilities generally fell into these job titles:

I was the Director of Logistics. He was the VP of Emotional Support.

Sarah & Joseph: From welding wedding to renovating and communicating

When we got married, Joe and I each owned and lived in separate houses. After the wedding, Joe moved into my house, and we began making renovations to his in order to sell it. Lo these three years later, it is almost ready to put on the market. We are also planning to put an addition on the house we live in now.

Claire & Bobby: From puppet wedding to living an improvised life

Hello everyone! Thanks for asking for a follow up. It’s been a packed five years. We’ve both found jobs that we love. I competed in an Iron Girl triathlon. Bobby still makes puppets. I even became a regular improviser (I make up songs!) at ImprovBoston with my husband and Dana Jay Bein, our male flower girl.
