How we made our DIY wall-mounted cat tree
We recently moved and had to ditch the old cat tree after two years of love and abuse. It plain fell apart in the process of moving so we started the hunt for a new tree. We wanted something sturdy, affordable, and something that wouldn’t take up too much room. Problem was, the cat trees you typically find on the market are made out of cheap plastic and particle or composite board. After some research, we decided to use the wallspace to the side and above our couch to create a wall mounted cat tree using a mixture of shelves and including a scratching post.
Use an old bike wheel as a message board
Offbeat Homie Michelle uploaded this awesome photo of her repurposed bike wheel-turned-message board to our Flickr pool. How pretty is this!?
What does an offbeat memorial service look like?
Recently my hubz had a very dear friend pass away after a long battle with ALS. While I don’t personally feel like I need services to grieve, my husband with his deep southern roots and traditions would like to honor his friend. We are financially unable to pay for traditional services, but are willing to host a memorial service. Has anyone planned what will boil down to an offbeat memorial service? Ideas are appreciated.
Vacuum out your heat ducts right now
This past spring (or the winter that would not quit here in Minnesota) we noticed that our heat seemed to not be working so well. My head immediately jumped to how to find a furnace repair person and how much that would cost. My wife suggested we try vacuuming out the ducts. A bit of internet research has shown that apparently you’re supposed to do this on a regular basis, but I had never thought to do it before. So now you know!
Our black and rainbow, music-inspired craft room
Despite the fact that it is a black room, our newly remodeled office/craft room is very bright and fun! I spend a lot of time in this room blogging and doing projects so I wanted it to be a fun place to hang, and I think it’s mission accomplished.
Impress your cat with a DIY rainbow deck
Let this cat introduce you to the latest and greatest in deck make-overs. Homie BubblesLeFay uploaded this photo to our Flickr pool and I just had to squeeze more details from her. This is how you can pull off your own rainbow deck re-do:
How to DIY a treasure chest storage box
I decided to make a little treasure chest for our wedding cards. I think my grandfather, who used to make things like this for fun and as gifts, would be very proud if he were alive today. I almost felt him watching over me as I made this, which made it very special. And here’s how I pulled it off…
3 ways to cope when you didn’t get the home you wanted
My partner and I just bought our first house. We love it. However, we didn’t get the first four we tried for, and we almost didn’t get this one at least 372 times throughout the process. I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster where I had to constantly prepare myself for a possible “it’s just not going to work.” To make the potential hard blow softer, I started searching for ways to make that situation a learning experience.
