From wrecked end table to rad planter
Maybe it was the paint fumes, but I had epiphany while turning an old bedside drawer into a plant stand… It’s not supposed to be a plant shelf — it’s a planter! A “tropical blossom” planter.
Scandalize your cat by using a fireplace as a headboard
If you have a fireplace you don’t use or happen to salvage a fireplace mantle, you can totally re-purpose it as a headboard! Flickr user Jennifer is utilizing the awesome molding (and perfect width) of her salvaged fireplace as a headboard for her charming-as-hell bed.
Should we trust apartment review sites?
y fiance and I are going to be moving soon, and have started apartment hunting. We have a definite budget for rent, so that means we’re looking at cheaper complexes.
We have found several places that we can afford, and everything seems decent enough, but the online reviews for these places are all very disappointing.
I’m wondering how seriously I should take these reviews — can I trust apartment review sites?
Vintage 1955 cottage in the Hollywood Hills
I recently went to the open house for this adorable Robert Byrd-style cottage built in 1955 and kept in incredible original condition tucked away in the Hollywood Hills. There are wonderful little vintage surprises all over this amazing home. Hidden lazy Susans in an unexpected location, beyond unusual doorframes, and the coolest/most dangerous bathtub I’ve ever seen.
Monday Moment: an impractical nook turned design moment

Is recycling still worth it?
I seem to have run into an obstacle in my marriage, regarding recycling. My husband seems to be under the impression that it takes more energy to recycle a bottle, or can, or cardboard box, than it does to simply toss it in the garbage — and therefore, is not worth recycling, because it’s creating more pollution than just tossing it.
So, I have some questions…
DIY rainbow bling for a Pride parade (or any ol’ day!)
One of the side-effects of being in a burlesque troupe is having buckets and buckets of rhinestones laying about. I had wanted to have this necklace finished in time to for the Pride Parade. As you can see in my inspiration picture above, the necklace that inspired this one is also rainbow-themed, but I wanted to take it in a more over-the-top rainbow direction. Here’s how you can over in a more over-the-top rainbow direction, too…
(With bonus applications like rainbow stagecoach robber, and rainbow garden gnome!)
