SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Everything’s growing in this week’s reader photos
Dudes, I woke up this morning and looked out the window and the world looked SO GREEN after all the rain Iowa got this week. It’s been warm here for weeks, but it’s not spring until the plants are growing. And it looks like people in the Offbeat Home Flickr pool are feeling the same fresh verdantness. Let’s take a look at the world with fresh eyes, and enjoy the Clicky Link bounty.
Auction house odds and ends — emphasis on the odd!
Come in!
I’ve been curating my household of oddities, antiques, and collectibles — largely from my job at an auction house in San Francisco, and also fed by my love of local sales and thrifting. I think my finds add a charm to my home that was otherwise missing.
This is my house, where I keep all my Things and make my art.
Antlers, bones, and dead things as decor
I love dead animals. I mean, I like LIVING animals more, but bones and teeth and taxidermied things are my favorite type of decorative detritus.
So let’s look at bones in the home. I understand if this icks you out. There’s only a little shame in that.
Daleks on a dinner plate, spring water for your home, and painting quotes on the walls — this week in reader photos
HELLO! Happy Monday! I know we are all very busy, so I’ll waste no time getting right to the photos I want to show you from the Offbeat Home Flickr pool this week. And in the Clicky Links I’ve got a soap-sludge solution, a tutorial on eyelash application, and a first hand story of what to do (and what not to do) after your house is hit by a tornado.
Dangers at home, Jayne Cobb, and moving supplies in this week’s reader photos
What up! On Mondays we start the week with a few photos from the Offbeat Home Flickr pool and Pinterest, and send you off with interesting links: revamping Chuck Taylors, new zines to read, and more.
Sick chickens, text art, and questionable piggy banks in this week’s reader photos
Happy Monday, Homies! Good to see you back. In this week’s photos we have a lot of voyeurism, and in this week’s Clicky Links there’s a lot of geeky consumerism.
Share your photos by posting to our Flickr group, and share your inspirations with us on Pinterest.
A New Zealand dorm gets invaded
It was always one of my boyfriend’s dreams to be an RA. He signed up this year and the first years move in this weekend, so we got to decorating.
Floor themes used to only consist of RA’s sticking up printed posters on doors, but, as it was a competition we decided to lift the game 500%. Hope the kids like it!
Not your auntie’s boring curtains: how about a glittery/retro window dressing solution?
All the curtains I can find are way boring. Where do you guys go for curtains?
I’ve thought about buying fabric and making my own, but I’d prefer not to. Also, when I say redo, I mean going from a “Hey, this is cheap and we can use it” to a “Hey, this is thoughtfully put together and really shows off the occupants’ personalities.” Which in this case is retro ’60s (him) and anything glittery (me).
So if anybody has any ideas or links to cool curtains, I would love you forever. But since this is the internet I think forever means like a nanosecond…whatever, I would be really grateful. -Christine
