I don’t know about you guys, but I plan to stay inside all day today. Luckily for me, ThinkGeek’s Black Friday Sale is handing out deals on all kinds of cool shit, including the ever-amazing Electronic Butterfly in a Jar for $9.99:
I’m kind of in love. My friend has one, and she says her five and two-year-olds are crazy for it. It never dies (unless you count when the batteries give out.. but that’s what rechargeable batteries are for!), and it’s also easy entertainment for your cat (except that it IS in a glass jar… so be careful where you put it). PLUS there are options — you can choose between a pink Morpho, blue Morpho, Monarch, and yellow Swallowtail.
And you know what else? IT’S JUST CUTE.
PS: In other affiliate news, Blurb now lets you make photo books from your Facebook albums. GENIUS.
I feel sorry for the (make believe) butterfly trapped in the glass jar !
Ha! I totally felt the same way until I saw it in person. It’s so whimsical and sweet!
Sadly it does die: my daughter broke hers within a week. It was totally awesome though! I love Think Geek. I would buy everything they had if I could.
We have one – it did die! 🙁 Needs new batteries, but oh my do we love it.
They also sell them at rite aid and walgreens and those kinds of stores.
I have one at my desk at work! The first week it flapped constantly, but now it only responds to a tap (which is a good thing!) People really do think it’s real if you go the yellow one, so opt for pink or blue so people don’t think you are a butterfly killer without figuring out that they aren’t real.
I love my butterfly in a jar!
We have the blue one and love it!!!
I feel really uncomfortable with this; it seems realistic enough that I would feel I was owning something that makes light of and in some way makes acceptable, a horrible thing.
Amanda, I’m curious: do Halloween decorations make you uncomfortable?
Thanks for the tip! I ordered one as a gift for my brother, his wife and kids.
I think these would be super cool as a part of a centerpiece at a wedding with some greenery and tealights
I totally bought one of these. No idea what I’m going to do with it yet, but it was waaay too cool to pass up.
