Samantha & Steven: From gothic wedding to Horror-themed home life

Based on the number of Facebook likes, y’all probably remember Samantha and her fabulous purple wedding hair. This is how she and her husband are doing today…

Name and occupation: Samantha — Makeup Artist
Partner’s name and occupation: Steven — Tattoo Artist
Our wedding profile: A creepy and elegant gothic wedding

To be quite honest, since our wedding, we have been living the normal everyday life! We have both focused a ton on our work and trying to advance our careers as well as customizing our house to our own style.

Our house includes a Disney Haunted Mansion-themed living room, a Bates Motel bathroom, and a Horror-themed family room (to name a few). Collecting items and decorating our many themed rooms has been quite a long and exciting adventure.

As for right now, we are so thrilled to announce that we are expecting a baby girl December 23rd, 2013! We are beyond excited for her to arrive and to start our little family.

Looking back all these years later, what do you remember most about your wedding?
Definitely all the music! I walked down the aisle to the “Bridal March of Doom” from the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland. Our guests were served dinner to different Horror movie theme songs. And we entered our reception to the sounds of Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. We will definitely never forget that!

Although this was not the music played during our ceremony or reception, it’s a cool little video our videographer put together…

Did you re-purpose any wedding decor or attire?
Surprisingly, not as much as you would think! We reused our custom urns (courtesy of my amazing mother-in-law) in our Haunted Mansion room.

The arbour we were married under is now located in our front yard! And I definitely wore my Swarovski Bordello’s again! I had the fanciest shoes at my work Christmas Party!

What big challenges have you faced? What have you learned from them?
Thankfully for us, the first year was really not that bad! I expected us to fight all the time and want to kill each other on the daily. There were a few nights I was “sleeping on the couch” but we have always vowed to never go to bed angry at one another, and if it took three hours of talking through the problem, we would do it.

I would say one of the most difficult times we have had to go through since our marriage would be the loss of our unborn child earlier this year. We were so excited to be pregnant but unfortunately lost the baby to Trisomy 18. I am a true believer in things happening for a reason so we will leave it at that.

I asked Steven what his thoughts were on the above question. He answered that he learned to always stick by each other’s side through issues, especially in regards to family. We are one, and my issue is his issue.

How do you keep your romance alive?
We enjoy a lot of the same things. Movies, collecting, music, traveling around Southern California (especially in the ’54 Chevy). We are always doing something. I can honestly say I do not think I will ever be bored.

We aren’t the super romantic type. You won’t find candlelit dinners at my house. We have a total love-hate relationship. Our friends and family think it is hilarious how we argue like crazy but are head over heels in love with each other. I say, who doesn’t like a good argument? That may just be the Gemini in me.

What advice do you have for newlyweds?
HAHA can I get some tips for the above question!?

Like I mentioned above, never go to bed angry at each other! Come to a compromise on the issue before going to sleep.

We totally went through the budgeting thing — we have it all figured out now but it took a good month to find what was right for us. My advice is to be fair and live within your means.

When it comes to housekeeping, be fair as well. In today’s world most of us need two incomes. In that case, the household chores should be equally divided.

As my husband always says, I am his ride or die as well as he is mine. We would stick by each other through anything and having that feeling of loyalty is absolutely amazing.

Comments on Samantha & Steven: From gothic wedding to Horror-themed home life

    • Thank you! We bought them from “The Baby Guy” He is based out of Santa Ana, Ca and is always at the Orange County Swapmeet. Not sure where you live but you can find him on facebook!

      • I don’t want to step on any toes here, but I would feel horrible if I didn’t say anything. I’m a car seat safety advocate and will soon be in training to become a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Unfortunately, as cute as that car seat cover is, it is unsafe, voids your car seat’s warranty, and is actually illegal to use if you live in a state with a “proper use” clause in your car seat law. They are not flame retardant, have not been crash tested, and can alter the way the car seat straps fit and protect your baby. I hate to be the bearer of super bummer news, but the cuteness isn’t worth the risk to your baby. Maybe you could use it on a stroller or bouncy seat instead? If you’d like more information, there is a great Facebook group called Car Seats for the Littles or a blog at TheCarSeatLady.org.

  1. They are the type of people I wanna hang out with and just observe. They look so cool and effortless. Kudos on the baby news! I think you folks are going to be great!

  2. Home tour please!?!?! Your house looks amazing!

Also where did you manage to snag such awesome antique furniture for the haunted mansion room??? They look like they are in SUCH good shape!

    • Thank you!
Ill have to work on that home tour! I just wish I had the time and money to complete everything!

We have found most of our furniture and auctions or antique swap meets! 🙂

  3. 3 things.

    1. Home tour, asap!
    2. If I do not learn where that baby stroller is from, I will probably die of a broken heart. I’m sure you have managed to find some other bad-ass baby stuff, and as a newly-pregnant lady finding all baby merchandise SERIOUSLY lacking, I am so surprised to find something awesome relating to baby gear.
    3. Oh yeah…congratulations!!

    • It is so unbelievably hard to find cool baby stuff! I have been on a mission and most everything is being made by myself or others, I would really like to find time to start a baby line for people like us!

See the comment above for where I got the stroller cover 🙂

      Congratulations to you as well!!

  4. You two are so cute!! Your house looks like mine, just mine is way less themed and organised….actually, not at all. But you’ve made me think what is possible….I’ve never really been one for home decor as such!

  5. Thanks for sharing the update and giving us a peek into your home! You’ve done an awesome job decorating, and I love the idea of having themed rooms!
Congratulations on your baby girl! I like the stroller. It is always inspiring to see people find cute, unique baby items.
Also I thought it was neat that you had Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson playing when you both entered the reception! I saw them both at the Freakers’ Ball last year in Texas. They put on an amazing show that I’ll never forget. =)
