Our home office/craft room was originally used as a storage room/dog’s room. It had pink and blue walls and pink carpet from the previous homeowners. One day we realized that this room was bigger than the room we were using as an office and decided to swap rooms. Here’s how it turned out…
We replaced the pink carpet with white laminate flooring, painted the walls black (one wall is painted with black chalkboard paint) and filled the room with book cases and desks from Ikea. I went with a wall of Expedit Book Cases that created tons of storage.
I wanted to incorporate all of our interests and favorite things into this room. I am very into music. So I decided to line the doors of the book cases with magazine clippings and covers from my favorite band and singer Gwen Stefani (I am a little obsessed).
There is sports memorabilia from my favorite teams and players. I have some of my favorite shoes on display because I am into fashion. My husband loves to drive so I added some travel art and pictures.
Despite the fact that it is a black room, it is very bright and fun in this home office. I spend a lot of time in this room blogging and doing projects so I wanted it to be a fun place to be in.
I’m obsessed with everything about this. I especially love the rainbow of sticky notes and the drawn-on frames!
What are you doing inside my brain?!? My fiance and I recently bought a house, and there are SO many similarities between this and what I had long planned for my own craft room, it’s freaky!!
Same rainbow-type theme, same Expedit stuff, desk-in-the-closet… wow. It’s going to look so awesome when I finally complete my own version of this. Of course it will be different. But it will have enough similar elements that I can easily see someone claiming we stole each other’s ideas.
Heather, I love that you were thinking about doing a lot of the same things. I always feel like my design style is too out there for most people. There are cool people out there. Good luck with your space. I would love to see it when you get it done. You can swing by my blog to contact me.
I am sending the link for this to my husband right now…
I am so freaking impressed by this! Love everything about it 😀
I’m very interested in your Home Projects sticky note door there. care to elaborate some more on that?!
I have a blog post on how I made this sticky note to do list. This link will take you to it. http://www.ifitsnotbaroquedesignblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/chalkboard-sticky-note-to-do-list.html
Is your blog’s name a reference to Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast?
Anyway, I love this design. Not my cup of tea for our house, but I <3 it nonetheless.
Yes, Kim, it is. I love Beauty and the Beast. Even as a little kid that was my favorite line from the movie. At the time of starting my blog, I was very into baroque style. I still am but my style has changed slightly nowadays.
I love all of this!
I.Want.To.Go.To.There.
Yay rainbow Flor!! I <3 those tiles so much, I think everyone should have them.
I just got the Expedit TV stand, and now I want Expedit EVERYWHERE. You are proving to me that a wall of Expedit is exactly perfect to hold ALL THE THINGS… Nice room! 🙂
I have a lot of Flor tiles in my house and the rainbow is by far my favorite. So bright and fun. I agree everyone should have them.
Very cute! So envious of all the storage you have. Kinda leaning towards an Ikea wall of storage awesome-ness myself.
For a black room, it’s still incredibly colorful. The black makes the color pop in a way. Nice job!
This is SO GOOD. Everything is so visually striking. Amazing what you can do with some flooring and paint! The shelves are amazing too…and the use of color. I’ll just be over here squeeing madly.
I LOVE EVERYTHING BUT OMG GWEN! SQUEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
This is completely amazing, but I’ve gotta say: My favorite thing is probably the little sneaky chihuahua(?) in the door of the last photo.
Can I live in this room!?
Ever since I was a little girl my favorite color combo has been: rainbow colors with black. Now to convince my bf that painting the walls in our room black is a great idea….
Congrats on such an amazing office!
Chihuahua photo bombing: I love it!!
I love the No Doubt album covers in the expedits. My childhood, right there.
I have a rainbow EXPEDIT too – I don’t have a recent full photo but you can get the idea from this pic … I love the EXPEDIT stuff, I’d really like a gloss red one, but i don’t have anywhere to put it!
