Should we trust apartment review sites?

y fiance and I are going to be moving soon, and have started apartment hunting. We have a definite budget for rent, so that means we’re looking at cheaper complexes.

We have found several places that we can afford, and everything seems decent enough, but the online reviews for these places are all very disappointing.

I’m wondering how seriously I should take these reviews — can I trust apartment review sites?

Is recycling still worth it?

I seem to have run into an obstacle in my marriage, regarding recycling. My husband seems to be under the impression that it takes more energy to recycle a bottle, or can, or cardboard box, than it does to simply toss it in the garbage — and therefore, is not worth recycling, because it’s creating more pollution than just tossing it.

So, I have some questions…

Astroturf alternatives: let’s talk about no-care groundcover

I’m not convinced astroturf is the way to go for my small yard. Does anyone have any ideas for groundcover that is real, requires no mowing, but still allows us to sit on a blanket and read or bask in the sun when the weather allows?

How can we make our house a destination?

We want to make our house the hangout spot for our friends. How do we do that? Every time we try to throw a party, we spend way too much time and money getting our place and the food and the music all ready. How do we make our house ready all the time, without emptying the bank and becoming Martha Stewart?

How can we eat on the floor without making our guests feel weird?

My fiance and I love to eat on the floor. We have a table that we like and we sometimes use it, but we’re just more comfortable on the floor.

We recently had a friend over for dinner and it was a little weird for him, so I want to come up with ways to make eating on the floor more comfortable for guests.

Other than cushions or mats, what can you do to make eating on the floor feel comfortable… and maybe even a bit posh?

Bring on the fun fur: how should I pimp out my Chevy van?

I am about to purchase an ’86 Chevy conversion van, and I want to re-do the inside. I’m talking fur and funky fabrics everywhere. Might any of the super crafty DIY readers have any ideas on how to go about reupholstering seats/floor/ceiling/walls?

Growing up: Can I settle down and be offbeat at the same time?

I am having cold feet about the next stage of my life. Homies, is my reluctance to buy a house and move in with my significant other a warning sign? Am I giving up an exciting, quirky life by planning to settle down?

This item in your medicine cabinet can make old plastic new again

Restoring old stereoware is my new habit — but I often get stuck on the plastic knobs, some of which have gotten gnarly and faded. I’m here to find out what my options are to save these little doodads.
