Help, I’m drowning in home brewing supplies!
My partner has just gotten into home brewing, and I am constantly tripping over empty glass bottles, utility buckets, glass carboys and plastic tubing! Anyone have any advice or tips on keeping the brewing supplies corralled, neat, and stored in a small space?
Adventures in couchless living
I was sitting at work today thinking about how I need to get rid of my not-so-old and very busted futon because it’s so damn uncomfortable, but also knowing this wasn’t gonna happen anytime soon because we don’t the have money to buy a replacement sofa. And then a “crazy” idea occurred to me. Why do we need a couch at all?
Home buying: What if what’s right for our budget isn’t right for us?
My boyfriend and I decided to buy our own house. We knew it was going to be difficult but we didn’t think it would be this difficult. We had found the perfect house, but with costly repairs needed. Suddenly my boyfriend wants a townhome, or a small house as a starter home, or even a condo. Sharing walls is not the long-term solution, but is it the short term solution? Should I be more worried about what’s right for us, than what’s right for my wallet? Or would what’s right for my wallet eventually be what’s right for us?
Container gardening, what works?
I have been poking around and growing sweet potatoes in containers looks to be easy enough. So, I would like to do a potato box, too. But should we put that on our deck? or would the cement patio be better? What else grows well in containers? (In the Northern Mid-west?) I know we can’t put anything out until near the end of May, but when should we start the sweet potatoes? Or… you know… any other suggestions?
How do I transform an ugly desk without taking it out of the room?
Homies, I need help. I have the ugliest desk imaginable. What I can’t figure out is… how it made it’s way into my house. It was here when I moved in, and even without the unscrewable legs, we can’t take it out any of our doors.I need to paint it, style it, anything — but I have to be able to do it inside. Can you homies help me transform this ugly desk?
How on earth do you move with an outdoor cat?
I was wondering how on earth you move with an outdoor cat. In our current home, we leave the window open and she comes and goes as she pleases. However, we’re looking to move to an apartment about four hours away. She doesn’t adapt to change well (was hoping to somehow have her asleep during the drive), but I know that a lot of outdoor cats try and find their way back to their old home. We were thinking of transitioning her to an indoor cat, at least for a while, but she’s never even used a litter box before. When, if ever, will it be okay to let her out again?
Are there creative alternative uses for a yearly diary?
I recently received a beautiful page-a-day type diary as a gift. My problem is that I no longer need a physical diary to keep track of my schedule; Google calendar and my phone take care of this. I’d love to see what creative ideas can you Offbeat Homies come up with as alternatives uses for a yearly diary.
