How to make the breaking up and moving out process as respectful as possible
I’m breaking up with my partner of four years (cohabiting for two) and we’re moving into separate spaces. How do I make the breaking up and moving out process as (relatively) painless and respectful as possible? Is there even a way?
Help! My bedroom is overrun by bras
Underwear easily rolls/folds and fits into the drawers I have. But I can’t figure out how to economically stuff 20 or more bras into a drawer and make them accessible. I can’t be the only bra hoarder. What do you do with clothes (but seriously bras!) when you don’t have a lot of closet space or existing furniture?
How to deal with a bad landlord that just doesn’t care…
My husband and I really love our three bedroom upper duplex, and we get it for a really great price. The problem is that our landlord, a property management company, could not care less about anything that we contact them about. What are your tips on dealing with landlords that just don’t care?
How do you pull off an awesome low-budget, gluten-free, soy-free, worry-free birthday party?
I feel like my husband deserves to have a wonderful birthday, where he doesn’t have to give a damn about worrying about what’s in his food. I figured if anyone would know about throwing a party for a nerd with dietary constrictions on a budget, the Offbeat Homies would know. So how do you pull off an awesome low-budget, gluten-free, soy-free, worry-free birthday party?
Heart-healthy food that’s REALLY easy?
I’ve recently been diagnosed with heart disease. I’m only 21 and in college. So I need to go from a “what can I grab and go?” fast food diet to a heart healthy diet asap. My partner is all for eating healthier, but that doesn’t change the fact that we are both short on cooking time. Are there any quick/easy meals or tips on how to have a heart healthy diet on the go?
How do you reheat leftovers without a microwave?
We just moved into a lovely older house that we’re planning on renting for at least a year. It doesn’t have a microwave, and I’m inclined to keep it that way. I am seriously at a loss, however, for how to heat up leftovers — especially meat — without making them rubbery and dry. Any tips for this erstwhile cook?
What does an offbeat memorial service look like?
Recently my hubz had a very dear friend pass away after a long battle with ALS. While I don’t personally feel like I need services to grieve, my husband with his deep southern roots and traditions would like to honor his friend. We are financially unable to pay for traditional services, but are willing to host a memorial service. Has anyone planned what will boil down to an offbeat memorial service? Ideas are appreciated.
How does one go about creating an old-ladyship home?
As a single woman of 68, and living in France far from my family, I am beginning to look at end of life issues — such as how to age gracefully in place, how to create a support group and face the last how-ever-many years with dignity, control, and pleasure. I have been discussing creating a shared home with four or five other women and wonder if anyone else thinks of this.
