How do you cope during that awkward, post-college phase?
This past June, I graduated from college and came back home from being out of state for four years. My same-age friends have either moved elsewhere, gotten married and blown me off, or live in different places, so I am constantly spending time by myself or trying to fit into age groups that I can’t fit into. How do I cope or make friends in that awkward, post-college, pre-long-term-plans phase?
Do you have any tips on making large spaces feel comfy and cozy?
The house we just bought is HUGE at 3077 square feet. But we’ve always lived in small places. What little furniture we have is apartment-sized. I have no idea what to do with so much space. Do you have any tips on making large spaces feel comfy and cozy, but not cluttered?
What do you do with all your reusable shopping bags?
I love my reusable shopping bags, and I even have some from travels around the world. But! What do I do with this mass of bags? Any cool ideas for organizing re-usable shopping bags? Have you figured out a way to keep them neat?
How do I get my mother-in-law to stop addressing things to my non-existent married name?
My husband and I have been married for six years now and most of the family is fully aware of the fact that I kept my last name — actually, I’m sure my in-laws are well aware of this. But my mother-in-law keeps addressing mail and checks to me as if I had changed my name.
Do I have to surrender my backyard to the spiders?
Our lovely Portland, Oregon backyard has transformed into a spidery wonderland during the past year. Spiders are awesome and super important for the environment, but we need our personal space! What can I do to de-spider the back yard, short of spraying with pesticides?
A handy guide to being a “good” tenant
I wrote a post about what it’s like to work from home as an apartment manager. After reading the comments, I got inspired to write a post on what I as an apartment manager and landlord look at when I classify someone as a “good tenant.”
How can I release my inner neat-freak and enjoy having people over?
My guy and I work from home — well, I work from home, he works from the shop in the barn behind our house, and it’s SUPER awesome. People drop by all the time, and it’s not unusual to have folks over 3-7 nights a week (people stay over 1-3 nights a week).
I come from a pretty traditional background and a clean freak mom so having an open house like this REALLY stressed me out, because I wanted the house to be clean and have snacks out etc. I’ve relaxed my standards significantly and now I’m wondering what kind of life-hacks I should be using to be prepared for guests?
How do you cope after a Craigslist scam?
My partner and I sort-of fell for a Craigslist scam. The logistical next steps are covered (we made complaints to Craigslist, the Internet Crime Complaints website, and the FTC; we’re putting fraud alerts on our credit reports). But how do you cope emotionally after being scammed?
