I’ve got a parenting question!

IVF failed three times and I’m ok: who else has accepted an unplanned Child-Free lifestyle?

I have had three failed IVF treatements and been on the super emotional roller coaster. After a bit of time I’m kind of OK/relieved (at least for now), and accepting the Childfree lifestyle that has been foisted upon us. I seem to be the only person on the interwebz who has this attitude.

How do you talk to your kid about differences?

My daughter is growing up with parents who have a strong judgement-free policy, but we don’t have the ability to introduce her to every type of person in the world. How are you explaining differences (physical, mental, racial, etc.) to your children?

How can I make my office baby-friendly?

I’m a new mother to a beautiful four-month-old girl. I’m also a contract lecturer and have to take work when I can get it. One of the things I love about my job is that I can work from home and take her to university with me, but I’m not sure how to set up my office to suit us both.

My baby can’t leave the house and I’m going nuts: what low-key games do you play with your infant?

My son spent most of his first four months of life in a hospital. Because he is so recently post-transplant, he can’t be in most public spaces without either a wee baby-sized face mask or without being in his stroller under a rain cover to block out airborne germs. We’ve played the same five games over and over — what else can we do to keep one another entertained?

Are midwives status symbols?

Danielle Pergament recently published a piece in the New York Times about the trendiness of midwives — and whether or not opting for a midwife is becoming indicative of social status (at least in some pockets of society).

How can I explain scary events and tragedies to my toddler?

My family and I live in Colorado — right in the middle of the Waldo Canyon fire that’s been in the news recently. We’re safe and so are most of our friends, but we’re facing impending evacuation and have no idea what’s going to happen next. How can we explain what’s going on to our two-year-old?

How involved are you when your kid visits family?

My husband and I each have pretty abrasive families. We don’t fear for our child’s safety in anyone’s company, but each set of personalities present their own unique complications — our families don’t really know what it means to be “kid-friendly.” What kind of ground rules should we lay down for when our kids visits?

Thinking of my ‘tween: should I be for censorship?

I’ve always prided myself on my support of free speech. While I don’t agree with what everyone is allowed to say, I do support their right to say it. My whole philosophy is coming under fire with my oldest son’s foray into the “tween” years.
