“Be honest, honorable, and kind”: Wil Wheaton explains to a newborn girl why being a nerd is awesome

Hey guys, in case you haven’t met your personal “Awww” quota for the day, here’s a cute story that’s all about why being a nerd is awesome:

Wil Wheaton listens to a question
During a talk at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo on April 27th, audience member Jennifer Black asked professional nerd Wil Wheaton to explain to her newborn daughter Violet why being a nerd is so awesome. Jennifer captured Wil’s inspiring answer on film for herself and others around the world to enjoy and pass on to their children.

The video was originally posted on Laughing Squid, and Wil wrote up his own version of the experience on his site.

Comments on “Be honest, honorable, and kind”: Wil Wheaton explains to a newborn girl why being a nerd is awesome

  1. I actually teared up a little bit… I love geeky things so much and I love my 2-year-old SO MUCH. I hope he never feels ashamed of the things that he grows up to love even if it’s maybe not the ‘cool’ thing to do. Wil put that so eloquently and my fandom for him just tripled!

  2. Love it! Reminds me of this Roald Dahl quote:
“I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. He taught me that if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be”

  3. That was absolutely adorable and amazing.

It would totally figure though if that baby grew up to be a total mainstream non-nerd and was like, “Who’s Wil Wheaton?”

  4. What a great video. I love that he explains it as a group of people that love things intensely. What he talks about it is exactly how I felt growing up. I’ve been told, “You think too much” too many times to count. Knowing that there are others out there like me feels SO GOOD. I’ll be sharing this. =)
