Use a window to solar charge your USB gadgets

Posted by

Got a window in your office? In the airport? In a foreign country? These little solar-powered stickies may be what you need to keep your USB gadgets up and running.

Just plug it in and let the solar panels and 1,300mAh rechargeable lithium battery keep your bars up, if you know what I mean. Ahem.

You can find this window cling solar charger on Amazon, or if you’re really ambitious, Instructables has a tutorial!

  1. That’s a really cool idea. Looks like it might be a new product on Amazon since it has no reviews yet. Could someone report back here if they buy one and let us know if it works well?

  2. I have this solar charger and it works pretty well as an “omg my phone is dead and I need to leave the house NOW” backup battery. I give it a full charge via USB, and then leave it in a sunny place so it’s always topped up and ready to go.

It won’t bring your phone back to full charge via solar, and solar charging is sloooooow, but when I went camping it gave me enough juice to last the weekend without plugging in.

  3. That would be amazing for travelling! No more worrying about power adapters for various countries, at least for my phone and tablet. Laptop will be harder, but hey – two outta three ain’t bad!

  4. This is such a cool idea. I have a window with a beautiful view at work, so this would be perfect for me. I’m getting really big into solar energy, too. The link you provided doesn’t work any more, is there another place I can find it? I’ll be looking as well.
