Help us make our bed nook look less “Old European shack”

y manfriend and I recently downsized our bedroom. We moved our office area into our bedroom and moved our bed ( nothing else) into where the office used to be. The Bed takes up most of the room (we can’t fit anything else in it)… it’s more like a bednook really.

Now I need ways to make the room look more like a cozy sleeping space and less of a solitary confinement room. I’ve draped a scarf on the wall to make a “headboard” (it’s just a mattress on the floor) but now it’s got this “Old European shack in the middle of winter feel” to it.

If you’ve ever thought about building an art studio in your backyard, you can really learn a thing or two from Chris and Jean’s hand-made art studio. But tell me, is this making you realize YOU could build your own art retreat in your backyard?

Mount your record player on the wall in small spaces

See any room there on that counter for a bulky record player? No, neither do I. That’s why it’s brilliantly hung up on the wall! Sadly, this isn’t possible with your average record player…

This teeny tiny home in Nanaimo makes me want to be more awesome

This little video about a tiny home made by Canada’s TwelveCubed Homes is so incredibly inspiring. Best quote? “The secret to living in such a small space is not to have too much junk.” Wise words, even for those of us living in larger spaces.

Super inexpensive alternative housing

My fiance and I are having a terrible time finding an apartment or other traditional living space here in New Jersey, and I am looking for inexpensive alternatives, but am not sure where to start. He is in the Army Reserves and neither of us make a lot, so we would like to save as much money as we can.

I spent several childhood years living in an RV, and it was an amazing experience, but there aren’t really any trailer parks in our area… does anyone have any thoughts on other extremely low-budget alternative housing options for us?

Tiny Casita: converting a $200 trailer into a sweet mobile casa

Thanks to the Tiny House Blog for introducing me to Greg Fowkes’ story. He’s a new dad who’s converting a $200 trailer into an amazing modern mobile home that he, his wife, and their new baby can drive down to Mexico and live in.

As Greg says, “When you think about getting back to basics, what could be more basic than family? Change starts at home.”
