Home palettes based on nerdy fandoms: Would you choose carpet that matches Worf’s hair?

I do love Adventure Time, Cartoon Network’s bizarro young adult show about a boy adventurer in the Land of Ooo. When I found Dan Toth’s episodic color palettes, I was inspired! Taking colors from TV shows to apply to — what, rooms? Spray paint craft projects? Reupholstery? GENIUS! I used Colour Lovers to do the same with a few other nerdy loves: Star Trek, Harry Potter, and Doctor Who.

I’m a grownup who loves kid decor

Circo? Is that a kid’s brand? It had some circus-y merchandise around it, sure, but certainly I didn’t buy something aimed at kids again, did I? Yep, that’s my burden. To search the world for elephant-shaped mugs and eyepatch-wearing bird art. Hi. I’m Superman, and I buy children’s decor but have no children (that I know about).

Kitsch-stuffed and happy mix-matched island-color home

Welcome to the happy cottage of Flickr user devotedsatellite! She didn’t have time to give us a tour herself, but I couldn’t let this house go unnoticed. Luckily, it’s jam-packed with cool stuff to look at, and the photos mostly speak for themselves.

How a kitchen works without a sink

Thanks to Brookes for uploading this photo to our Flickr pool. She explains her kitchen sans sink… This is our sink set up until we have the well hooked up. My husband and father-in-law made all of the cupboards. Our tiny house was originally a pottery studio so here and there we have bits of […]

So you have $1000 to spend. WHERE DOES IT GO?

This doesn’t happen often, but sometimes we have some extra money to spend on the house. A few hundred bucks for new speakers, or a grand for a couch. Each time we have a windfall we can put into our home, we stall with anxiety. Scott and I have been living together a long time, and out of our parents’ homes for a decade, and just like most people in their late twenties, money like this needs to be used carefully. We can’t just whittle it away on hookers and beer — we’d like a sensible piece of furniture good for a lifetime.

But that anxiety! What if we choose a couch we hate or our car breaks down the week after we paint the living room and then we wish we hadn’t dropped $400 on the job?
