I know when someone reaches out and says, “Megan, you NEED to see this house!” I’m going to be going on a surprise trip to time capsule awesomeness. And sure enough @kraftykmay was awesome enough to share with me this amazing vintage-style piece of time capsule real estate, currently for sale in Dallas, Texas, that has a special Disney twist.

I’ll let the real estate listing fill you in on this fascinating retro Disney house…

I'm already in love, and I haven't even gotten inside.

Designed and built by the famed Gordon Nichols, the home at 11016 Pinocchio Drive known as the Smith House, is among the best of the Mid-century Modern houses in the highly desirable Disney Streets. The house was one of the featured homes during the highly successful 1954 Parade of Homes which highlighted the latest modern conveniences and building materials.

Its low-slung roof and expansive horizontal feel represent the goal of many builders and architects in the postwar era to offer flexible seamless indoor and outdoor living spaces… The open concept living areas feature vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and cool MCM features such as the Nelson Bubble Lamp in the dining room. The kitchen… is just wow, featuring the original cabinetry, vintage pink appliances and Formica counters. This is the real deal… no cheap builder-grade granite here.

Once you step out to the south lawn that includes the pool area, blink your eyes and you may think you are in Palm Springs… or on the set of Mad Men! …With so many original features and thoughtful touches, the Smith House is a truly special and unique Mid-century Modern home.

Slip on your smoking jacket, turn on the Sinatra and pour yourself a martini…you’re home!

Now let’s take a look inside…

Look at those amazing windows! Wait, is that a Bob's Big Boy you see outside? Ssshh, we'll get to that later...

Did you know orange is my favorite color? So you can only imagine the raging home decor boner I have right now.

But orange is quickly forgotten when you get one look at this vintage kitchen complete with titty pink appliances! (Remember, when we first talked about titty pink?)

I'd happily stay "lost in the '50s" in this home.

The only place you get a break for the colorsplotion of this place is the all-white master bedroom. It has a circular motif -- from the headboard, to the matching loveseat, to the freaking round BED.

But then the color comes rushing back in the master bath with soothing turquoise. Hi, I see you, adorable vintage radio that matches perfectly.

Speaking of vintage communication devices... check out the vintage phone collection in the office!

...THE POOL!
…THE POOL! And yes, that is a honest-to-gawd Bob’s Big Boy statue, acting as one kitschy life guard.
It even has an outdoor fireplace, which means I'm now in a polyamorous relationship with both the indoor and outdoor fireplaces.

Look at the concrete designs around the pool! It's so great. I want to dive in and never come out.

I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring this home as much much as I enjoyed sharing it with you! If so, what was your favorite part?

Comments on Disney + retro-futuristic decor meet in this time warp of a Dallas home

  1. If only houses (yard & all) could be moved to a city near you! I really want the record player that looks like a charcoal grill lurking in the back corner of the office. We have a great collection of vinyl and it would be freakin awesome to rock out with that groovy stereo.

  2. Pretty groovy. I think I would like the kitchen more though if it had painted cabinets ( like white? Or maybe even titty pink too?? no, white so the titty pink pops)
I actually worked at a Bob’s Big Boy one summer and you would not believe the things people would do to that poor Big Boy statue. That thing was defiled routinely. My manager had to make periodic “used condom checks” on it. I can’t look at the statues the same way now.

  3. With the Disney aspect, it kind of reminds me of Tomorrowland – they’ve switched to basically this aesthetic now. The master bathroom is probably my favorite part; I’m a fan of turquoise.
